[SCOOP] Popular Ice Cream Maker to Open Buckhead Scoop Shop This Month

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams plans to open their new Buckhead Scoop Shop Thursday September 19, according to sources familiar with company's plans.  The new shop occupies a 1,398 square foot space in the Whole Foods Market-anchored Buckhead Market Place shopping center at 77 West Paces Ferry Road.  The new shop marks the fifth in Atlanta for the Columbus, Ohio-based ice cream maker.   The new "scoop shop" occupies a portion of the former The North Face store.  (The outerwear retailer previously consolidated their Atlanta operations into a single store at Lenox Square.)

The new Jeni's will open alongside Velvet Taco, a Dallas, Texas-based quick-serve taco joint that opened their first of at least two planned locations in metro Atlanta Monday, September 9.  Later in October, The Merchant, a curated retail store from entrepreneur Dan Collier, will open in the remaining portion of the former The North Face store.

Jeni's, like Atlanta-based High Road Craft Ice Cream, produces a wide assortment of year-round and seasonal flavors, many of which are rather unique.  Flavors offered by Jeni's include churro, sweet potato with torched marshmallow, goat cheese with red cherries, Riesling poached pear sorbet and frosé sorbet, among others.

Based in Columbus, Ohio, Jeni's sells ice cream and sorbet in grocery stores like The Fresh Market and Publix, as well as in their "Scoop Shops."  The first shop in Atlanta opened at Westside Provisions in October 2013 and has been joined by subsequent locations on the Decatur Square and in Krog Street Market (November 2014) and most recently, at Avalon in Alpharetta (June 2017).  A sixth Atlanta area location is planned for CODA along West Peachtree Street in Midtown

Jeni Britton Bauer founded Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams in 2002.  Today, the company operates thirty-eight Scoop Shops in eight states and Washington D.C.
