Shorty's Pizza in Toco Hills has closed after more a dozen years in business. The restaurant, located in the LA Fitness anchored shopping center at the corner of North Druid Hills and LaVista Roads, closed without warning within about a week ago, according to local sources. There was no mention of the closure on the restaurant's official facebook page. The most recent post was on September 13 advertising a dinner special.
The Shorty's at Toco Hills opened in 2005 and was a popular spot for (local) families given its moderate pricing and approachable menu. That said, the restaurant had reportedly under-performed in recent months, leading ownership to make the difficult decision to close.
A second Shorty's that opened in 2008 on Lawrenceville Highway in Tucker remains open.
Are you surprised that Shorty's closed in Toco Hills? What is your favorite Toco Hills area restaurant? What would you like to see open in place of Shorty's at Toco Hills?

Things changed 5 years ago after the original owners sold it. For example, you got more soppressata, but the soppressata of lower quality. That was my experience at least. It was too bad because that was one of my favorite places long ago.
Shorty's should re-attempt business in Toco Hills -- with stronger marketing and public relations efforts, and with a more attractive storefront. Such efforts can revive the business. -- JodyTucker.com | September 27, 2019
This sucks for local fare in Toco Hill. I always really love the pizza as I'm a thin-crust fan. The space, though, was so bad. It was so hard to enjoy yourself with people saying excuse me after every second. To-go orders were even worse. There was no place to wait that you weren't in someone's way. So eating there, in my opinion, wasn't an overall enjoyable experience. That pizza, though... perfection.
I sure hope the Tucker location stays open. A few years back the service and food quality was terrible but they turned the restaurant around and now we go 1-2 times a month. Pizza is above average and has a nice long bar.
Despite enjoying the pizza, unless you ate outside it was too cramped and hot inside. I would leave LA Fitness and it would smell amazing, but I also don't like spending $20+ on pizza.
Owner of Shorty's also owns Maggies across the street, who Edens has been trying to get rid of since they bought the center. Will be interesting to see if Ivan gets out of the businesses all together.
The place was not the same after Brian sold it. But damn, that chocolate chip cookie.
Used to work at the Shortys in Toco hills. Saw the change in ownership. Managers were drunk or high. People left. Honestly not surprised the branch failed. It's a real shame since the food was so good. Hopefully Tucker doesn't do the same.
