The Bojangles' at 8550 Roswell Road in Sandy Springs has closed. The restaurant, which opened in 2015, was a franchise of the Charlotte, North Carolina-based franchise. The Sandy Springs restaurant was owned by Richard Vorisek restaurant management, a firm that also owned the Bojangles' at 3101 Canton Highway in Marietta.
The Canton Road location, which replaced a onetime Shoney's restaurant, opened a few months after the Sandy Springs restaurant and closed earlier last year. A Bojangles' spokesperson tells ToNeTo Atlanta that the Sandy Springs restaurant closed as of January 31.
The former Marietta Shoney's was demolished for the new Bojangles', whereas the Sandy Springs location opened in a heavily renovated building previously home to La Strada / Derby Food & Spirits / Locos Grill & Pub. Both locations seemed to suffer from poor service with the Marietta and Sandy Springs Bojangles' sporting cumulative two and three star Yelp reviews, respectively.
The Marietta location - with "lot's" of parking - is currently being marketed for lease, while the Sandy Springs location seems to have not yet hit the market.
A sign announcing the closure outside with a sign promoting job opportunities inside |
The closure of the Sandy Springs restaurant comes on the heels of corporate's decision to close four company owned restaurants in metro Atlanta this past December. ToNeTo Atlanta exclusively reported December 4 that Bojangles' had shuttered its restaurants in Duluth, Lilburn, Lawrenceville and Peachtree Corners. All four units were referred to as "underperforming" by corporate in their explanation of their abrupt closures.
Following the closures, Bojangles’ will continue to operate more than 100 restaurants in Georgia, including locations in Chamblee, Doraville, Tucker, Buford, Marietta, Kennesaw and Carrollton, among others. Collectively, there are currently 749 restaurants in the Bojangles’ system.
Intact signage has would-be patrons confused |
Bojangles' was in November 2018 taken private by Durational Capital Management LP and The Jordan Company, L.P. in a deal valued at nearly $594 million. There were 766 Bojangles' restaurants system-wide at the time of the purchase.
Are you surprised to see the Bojangles' in Sandy Springs close? What is your favorite fast food chain for breakfast food? What would you like to see in the former Bojangles' in Sandy Springs?

I have no idea about how busy this location was during the rest of the day - but it was my go-to once a week for breakfast (at about 6:30am). The service was usually friendly. Sometimes not. The food - usually sausage and/or steak biscuits and maybe a Boberry biscuit - was always fine.
I grew up in SC going to Hardee's and Bojangles for breakfast and getting chicken from Bo before football games, etc. So, when they started opening here, I was happy to have that option. But I can see locals not having that tie not patronizing Bo's as much as other places (like Popeyes, etc.). Also, I feel that Bojangles grew in ATL a little aggressively which may have also led to a lot of these recent closures.
As long as the Woodstock (92 @ Trickum) location stays open - I'll be happy. It has fantastic service consistently, and is the closest location to me.
I live near this location and predicted it's closure for a while. I never saw more than a couple of customers in there even during lunch and dinner
This was our go-to Bo's from the time it opened, never had a problem getting our bissits but if it wasn't doing enough dinner and night biz, I can see that it could not survive. I do know that staffing was an issue more than once, but I expect that at FF joints. Oh well.
Honestly Kitser Bojangles is definitely poorly managed because the one in Hiram, Georgia tasted great the last time I ate there, and for as Hardee’s blehhh nasty and overpriced the one in Panama City Beach near me where I currently live either needs to go out of business or start over honestly. 🤦🏻♂️
Burger King or Tace Bell
I've work directly across the street for the past 3 years and honestly it doesn't shock me a bit. The location was never busy when I passed by. I've eaten there several times, the food and customer service was good. Personally I'd LOVE to see a Zaxby's go in that location!! I'd love to see them give Chick fil-a a run for thier money. If not Zaxby's then maybe a Taco Bell.
Zaxby's or Taco Bell please!
Hardee or Taco Bell
No surprise that any businesses in Sandy Springs close. The service in practically every business I go to is beyond pathetic! Where do these people come from, & where's management? I feel like my presence is bothering them. What "attitude"! I commonly drive outside of Sandy Springs to East Cobb just to shop/eat without getting upset.
Okay Nita B Burger King is hit or miss, and mostly it’s disgusting and expensive like McDonald’s and Taco Bell is ehhhh okay, but Del Taco to me tastes a lot better, even though I love the Baja Blast, Nacho Fries, and Chalupas they did have. 😈 Anonymous Zaxby’s is ehhh okayy, but Guthrie’s is so much better honestly it is less salty, and it tastes better. 😅 And Mekkasmom once again Zaxby’s is okay but Guthrie’s is better, Taco Bell is alright, but Del Taco is better in my opinion, and unknown Hardee’s is disgusting and overpriced and Taco Bell is ehhhh but Del Taco is better honestly. 🤔
Really a Culver’s, Cookout, or Del Taco would be ideal for this former Bojangles since Popeyes, Checkers, and other choices are already over the whole Metro Atlanta area, because I live now I would love to have Bojangles, Cookout, or Del Taco, since we have the other choices of course. 🤔
There chicken is not great. Sometimes the chicken was good I think because someone was adding their own personal touch. They need to change their chicken recipe or they'll all go out of business! The location has nothing to do with it. It was on a very busy street.
Anonymous Sandy Springs and Dunwoody are both overrated cities in general they are the only two decent areas of DeKalb County Lol! 🤣 And East Cobb is not any better than Sandy Springs, that’s like Marietta and Smyrna 2.0 that is hit or miss as well. 😂 Honestly if you want decent service in Metro Atlanta it would be Kennesaw or West Cobb hands down everywhere else will treat you like crap including Austell and Paulding County honestly, I mean service is ridiculous where I live now in Panama City Beach since I used to live in Metro Atlanta restaurants are nowhere near as good as they were a decade ago. 😞
Unknown you obviously are a true Chick-fil-A or Popeyes fan, since you said the chicken is not great, Bojangles makes a killer Cajun Chicken biscuit now I’ll admit the regular spicy chicken on the bone wasn’t great a lot of times, they probably were adding their own personal touch, now the chicken is good from Bojangles because Chick-fil-A and Popeyes aren’t always the best either, but they don’t need to change the recipe they would go bankrupt and liquidate faster than Krystals hamburgers going under even. 🤦🏻♂️ If the location was on a busy street, it was poorly managed like I once said, because the one in Paulding County where I used to live was always busy in Hiram, Georgia but sadly the closest ones to me now are Tallahassee, Dothan, Alabama, Pensacola, Florida, and Montgomery, Alabama unfortunately. 😞 But either way Bojangles will live on another day and continue to grow like they always do. 👍🏻
Fast food in general sucks. I work near this place and there were never any cars here. I much prefer to make my own lunch and bring it from home. It's healthy, fresh and cheap. Unlike fast food - which is disgusting and unhealthy.
Anonymous on February 16, 2020 at 9:34 am You say fast food sucks in general, regular restaurants are not any better and lol if you think it’s cheaper to eat from home it’s just as expensive as going out now, really Aldi is the only food store you can actually save money, otherwise you have to see what deals Kroger, Ingles, Publix, or where I live now Winn Dixie as well in order to come out the same, because Walmart sucks, Target has a good grocery selection but the one near me is lackluster compared to the Super Target in Hiram, Georgia unfortunately! 😞 And it’s not healthy, and fresh necessarily either, even healthy foods is just as unhealthy as the unhealthy foods due to artificial ingredients used in the foods, and secondly not all fast food is disgusting and unhealthy as matter fact Chick-fil-A is probably the healthiest besides Culver’s and Subway far as healthy foods go, but to me I rather eat at Chick-fil-A and Culver’s if I’m going to eat healthy, because the sides and salads are not all French fries either, where Subway is literally a vegetarian sub shop now, so either way that’s only way you’ll come out cheaper, because eating healthy is expensive especially when you go to Whole Foods, Fresh Market, Publix, and other places of that nature. 🤣
