[CLOSURE ALERT] Lenny's Subs Loses the Sandwich Battle in Sandy Springs

Lenny's Grill & Subs has closed its short-lived location on Johnson Ferry Road in Sandy Springs.  The restaurant, which occupied a 3,000 square foot space in The Springs shopping center, was located adjacent to Bruster's Ice Cream and across from the City Springs development.  The Sandy Springs Lenny's was a franchise of the Memphis, Tennessee-based company and was one of several in the Atlanta area.  The Sandy Springs outpost opened in August 2018.

The Springs, a small center off Roswell Road not anchored by any big box store or grocer, was probably not the best place to open a largely unknown sandwich shop in what has become a crowded market.  More well known sandwich shops such as Jersey Mike's Subs and Subway operate locations in City Walk and Abernathy Square, respectively, with each in better, more high profile centers.  Breadwinner Cafe & Bakery, located close to Lenny's in Springs Landing, is not in a high profile center, but is locally owned and has attracted a devoted following over the years.

ToNeTo Atlanta reported January 5 that Firehouse Subs closed its area location along Roswell Road in Sandy Springs Plaza.

Over ten years ago it was Larry's Giant Subs, another new-to-market sandwich shop, that also closed in Sandy Springs.  Larry's was located in The Prado and its early opening (ahead of most others in the center), lack of brand awareness and poor location, all likely contributed to their short stint in business.

Primo Hoagies, another quick-serve sandwich shop opened last year in Sandy Springs, and we questioned then the idea of opening an unproven sandwich shop in a less than ideal location.  Local real estate brokerage The Shumacher Group in February listed the business for lease.  ToNeTo Atlanta visited the shop earlier this week and noted that the hours at Primo Hoagies have been cut to lunch only, with the restaurant closing at 4 PM daily.

Following the closure in Sandy Springs and at least one other earlier on Holcomb Bridge in Peachtree Corners, Lenny's has just two locations in Georgia, one in Alpharetta, the other in Cumming.

Are you surprised by the sudden closure of Lenny's in Sandy Springs?  What would you like to see open in place of Lenny's in Sandy Springs?  Where is your favorite sandwich shop in metro Atlanta?

Please share your thoughts below.

The Holcomb Bridge location was in Peachtree Corners, not Norcross

Honestly never ate at Lenny’s Subs when I used to live in Metro Atlanta in Paulding County Georgia, never had Quiznos either when they had Hiram, Douglasville, and Austell, Georgia but I have had Blimpies, Subway, Firehouse Subs, Jersey Mike’s, Which Wich, but never had Jimmy Johns either, but I will say this Blimpies is gross, Subway is not as good as it used to be, Firehouse rocks, Jersey Mike’s is the best, and Which Wich only had once at the Panama City Florida location on 23rd Street, and Panama City Beach is the first time I tried Jersey Mike’s as well, but out of all sub shops Jersey Mike’s and Which Wich are my favorites then Firehouse reason why, Jersey Mike’s has more flavor and Which Wich is unique where Firehouse is more like what Subway used to be! 😅 But either way well Lenny’s is like Quiznos and Blimpies hardly any locations in existence anymore, and Jimmy Johns is horrible I wasn’t impressed with the menu reading it online so therefore I never been to the one at Pier Park or the one in Hiram, Georgia near Walmart. 🤔

Anonymous on March 8, 2020 at 5:31 Pm Do you ever know when to shut the hell up, I mean come on now damn, I don’t know it all, your definitely a smart ass who rather complain about what I say? 😑 I was stating an obvious comment never been there or Quiznos, plus Jimmy Johns is an acquired taste, I mean if you want fast delivery without Grubhub or Door Dash prices you go there instead, otherwise I think Jersey Mike’s and Which Wich make a better sandwich where Firehouse and Subway are both now expensive and not worth those prices, but Firehouse has better sandwiches than Subway still, but I think Jersey Mike’s and Which Wich just take it a level further. 👍🏻
