[EXCLUSIVE] Street Taco "Muerto" in Marietta

On the heels of news that Southern Proper Hospitality had closed three of its Atlanta area restaurants comes news that they actually closed a total of four.  In addition to the closures of Big Ketch Roswell, Tin Lizzy's at The Point and Beni's Cubano in East Cobb, the group also closed Street Taco at Marietta Square Market at 68 North Marietta Parkway in in Marietta.  Street Taco, described as offering "authentic and adventurous Mexican street food," opened with the food hall last March, and reportedly closed permanently within the past few days.
Street Taco was at the time of its opening the newest Southern Proper concept.  The company subsequently introduced another new concept later last fall: Ocean & Acre, a full service steak and seafood restaurant at the new Halcyon project in south Forsyth.

The Street Taco website and Instagram are still live, but the former provides no COVID-19 re-opening info as other Southern Proper concepts do, and the latter has not been updated since March 11.  The Street Taco Facebook page has been deleted and it has been removed from the Marietta Square Market website.

At Marietta Square Market, Street Taco had the largest space [indoor & outdoor seating for about 150] and perhaps the worst location [in the back left corner] of any of the restaurant concepts.  As was the case with the firm's other closures, it's believed that the company took advantage of the COVID-19 situation to shutter already under-performing restaurants (of which Street Taco was reportedly one basically since day one) which should aid the company in the long run.

Among the expansion plans previously announced for Southern Proper are the introduction of their Buckhead area Gypsy Kitchen restaurant to Washington D.C., as well as further expansion of the group's popular Tin Lizzy's concept in the southeast.

Did you ever try Street Taco?  Are you surprised that Street Taco closed at Marietta Square Market?  What would you like to see open in place of Street Taco at Marietta Square Market?

So many restaurants are closing because of the Trump Pandemic, the Trump Plague. If only Trump hadn't fired everyone at the CDC and fired Obama's pandemic response team. If only he hadn't lied to the American people about the virus and engaged in a cover up, calling the virus the flu and a hoax. If only Trump had done something in January about the virus, after being told by advisors that 500,000 could die. Instead Trump went golfing and on his hate rallies. Thousands are dead because of Trump

good riddance. they were not street tacos. street tacos are 99¢ with meat, onion and cilantro. the tacos here were too bougie to call themselves street tacos.

I agree with the above comment. I live within 2 miles of the Market and have been dozens of times. Never ate at this place once, solely due to the prices. Plenty of other choices on site that provide great food at a better value. Also, not sure if things have changed in the past few days but Bread & Butter, another Market tenant with a (relatively) large space, has not reopened. Hate to see places close and people lose their jobs.

Not surprised. I went one time and paid almost $20 for three tiny tacos and some guacamole and chips. No drink. I couldn’t even finish them they were so terrible. It’s hard to mess up Mexican food for me but I never went back

I want to like this food hall but there isn't anything special there, and it's all overpriced.

Also not surprised. They started out really good with great service and really good margaritas. The Manager and staff were always checking on guests, offering refills on drinks and chips. The last time few times I was there that level of service was gone. In fact, I sat at the bar with a friend only to be ignored and ultimately told (rudely) that I needed to order my drink at the cashier and not at the bar. We were the only two people there. No thanks. The Forno Vero bar is great! I’ll go there.
