[UPDATE] The Colonnade Restaurant to Reopen July 31

The Colonnade Restaurant has announced plans to reopen Saturday, July 31.  The legendary Atlanta eatery closed March 16 due the COVID-19 and other than a brief Mother's Day takeout event, has been closed since.  For weeks the restaurant's voicemail has hinted it would reopen July 31, but the restaurant made the news official Monday with an announcement on their facebook page.  In celebration of National Fried Chicken Day, the restaurant announced they would reopen Friday, July 31, with "details to follow soon."
An Atlanta institution for nearly 100 years, The Colonnade has been in business since 1927 and has held court at its current 1879 Cheshire Bridge Road address since 1962.  Before its Cheshire Bridge home, the restaurant had been located at the corner of Lindbergh Drive & Piedmont Road.  Jodi Stallings, whose father purchased the restaurant in 1979, now owns and manages the restaurant with her husband David.

The Colonnade's website is currently down and no menu has been released, but it's fair to surmise there could be some changes to the offerings and maybe the pricing as well.  The Colonnade's popular "Early Bird Menu" which about a year ago increased in price but was still a great deal, could go up another buck in price but still remain a great deal.  The Early Bird Menu, which pre-COVID-19 included several entree options, also included the Colonnade's famous yeast rolls and cornbread muffins, two sides, beverage and a dessert.  In recent months, salmon croquettes and soda were removed from the Early Bird Menu and other small moves are likely in an effort to continue to provide customers with value while also protecting the restaurant's bottom line.     

Due to the high proportion of The Colonnade's typical clientele being older in age, it faces challenges different from most reopening restaurants as many of their regulars are at higher risk for contracting the virus and may opt to remain home.    

According to a survey conducted by the National Restaurant Association, the restaurant and food service industry likely lost nearly $120 billion in sales during the first three months of the pandemic.  Independent restaurants - those without corporate backing and deep pockets - were among those hit the hardest and in greatest need of the public's support.   

All restaurants need your support now more than ever and we encourage everyone to patronize your local restaurants as often as possible.

If the management of colonnade is reading this, please please please join DoorDash. It will keep your customers loyal if they don’t want to come in and it will contribute to your bottom line. Hopefully someone can reach out to them and let them know the value and that people are asking for it.

Love the Colonnade...just wondering how they plan to open without outside seating?

COVID is going to spread through the Colonnade faster than it does through a nursing home.

Glad they are opening. Personally I think they are getting by on their reputation but I know a lot of people love going there.

I am a native Atlantan, ate at the Colonade once in the 90s.
Made no impression on me.
Have never understood the fascination with it.

Love everything thing there. My usual is fried pork chops rice and cream gravy and turnip greens. You cannot beat the place for a better meal any place in Atlanta.😀
