[EXCLUSIVE] Breakfast, Burgers and BBQs are Coming to Former Suburban Salad Site

A onetime Sweet Tomatoes restaurant will soon make way for a new development.  Following the abrupt and disappointing closure of the entire salad bar chain last year, many of the chain's former locations have been targets of redevelopment.  In Kennesaw, the former Sweet Tomatoes at 1125 Ernest Barrett Parkway is being redeveloped into a six suite project called Barrett Corners.  Demolition of the former restaurant took place July 1 with plans for the first businesses to open in early 2022.  

Headlining the new openings in the project is popular breakfast eatery Maple Street Biscuit Company.  The breakfast joint will occupy a 2,975 square foot corner suite and will be open for breakfast and lunch.  As its name suggests, Maple Street is known for their biscuits but also features assorted waffles, bowls, salads and sides as well as fresh squeezed juices.   The Jacksonville, Florida-born chain already operates five locations in Georgia, including those in Alpharetta, West Midtown, Duluth, Savannah and Woodstock.  The company was acquired by Cracker Barrel in October 2019, after which it moved its headquarters to Nashville. 

A new Five Guys is also opening in the development and will occupy the other corner unit, a 2,502 square foot space at the corner of Greers Chapel Road and Barrett Parkway.  This marks the second Kennesaw area location for the burger & fry chain which also operates a restaurant at The Village at Town Park on Chastain Road.   

Ocoee, Florida-based Paradise Grills, a retailer specializing in "the world’s strongest built Outdoor Kitchens, Fire Features, Hibachis, and Tiki Huts," will open its first Atlanta area showroom in the project, too.  The 5,291 square foot space is the largest in the center and will allow the growing business to showcase their array of outdoor heating and cooking features.  According to the Paradise Grille website, additional Atlanta area locations are in the works for Alpharetta, Buckhead and Newnan.  

A new location of Pacific Dental is the fourth confirmed tenant in the project and will occupy a 2,803 square foot space.  

The two remaining spaces total 4,495 square feet (3,200 and 1,295) with a source close to the project telling ToNeTo Atlanta that discussions are being held with several interested parties and that a decision on the remaining tenant(s) should come in the next thirty days.  

The three other Atlanta area Sweet Tomatoes were located in Alpharetta, Duluth and Dunwoody.   

The Shopping Center Group is currently marketing the former Dunwoody location as either a three suite conversion or renovation for new user as a single use.  The Dunwoody location, situated in a highly visible outparcel of the Costco store, is likely the most sought after of the Atlanta area locations and is also therefore most expensive.  

The former Alpharetta Sweet Tomatoes is located at 950 North Point Drive, was built in 1999 and is just over 8,000 square feet, according to a leasing flyer from LoopNet.  The listing was most recently updated in June 25 and is seemingly still on the market.  

The former Duluth unit, located along Ring Road surrounding Gwinnett Place Mall, is also being marketed by LoopNet but for sale rather than for lease.  The nearly 8,000 square foot building sits on 1.6 acres and was built in 1998, according to the listing which was last updated June 14.  The listing, with an offering of $2.59 million or $331 per square foot, indicates that the property is "under contract."
