[EXCLUSIVE] Popular Mexican Restaurant Coming to Roswell

A new Mexican restaurant is planning to make its metro Atlanta debut.  Papa's & Beer, which currently has eight locations across North and South Carolina, will in early 2022 open a new location in Roswell. (Beard Papa's is a similar sounding name but completely different eatery serving Japanese style puff pastries with Atlanta area locations in Peachtree Corners and Sandy Springs.)

The restaurant, which is described as featuring "California Style authentic Mexican food," will open as 12050 Etris Road (Sweet Apple Village), in a 4,600 square foot space most recently occupied by BoneYard Kitchen & Tap.

The Papa's & Beer menu features more than two dozen different burritos as well as plenty of taco, enchilada and fajita options.  Interestingly, while nearly everything on the Papa's & Beer lunch and dinner menu has a price noted, the restaurant's table-side guacamole is labeled as "market price."

Planning documents indicate that Jannira Martinez is opening the new Roswell outpost and that she is also the owner of the other restaurants in the Carolinas.  The family-owned restaurant was started by Jannira's father, Javier Gomez, in 2006.

A notice on the restaurant's door indicates that Martinez has submitted her application for beer, wine, liquor and Sunday sales to the City of Roswell and that it will be heard Thursday December 2.  According to a well-placed source, Martinez hopes to open "as soon as possible," potentially even trying to "soft open" before the end of the year, if all goes well.

Have you ever been to Papa's & Beer?  What is your favorite Mexican restaurant in metro Atlanta?  If more locations of Papa's & Beer are planned for Atlanta, where would you like to see them open next?

That will be the 3rd Mexican restaurant in that space. I thought Tarahumata was really good, Blue Agave not so much. I am not sure this area has interest in yet another Mexican place, but good luck to them. Restaurants other than Peach and the Porkchop haven't had good luck in that shopping center (RIP Moe's smoked wings).

Very happy to hear this. LOVE their salsa bar. It's a 'must' for us whenever we visit Asheville.

Years ago, we got caught in a thunderstorm in Simpsonville, SC. We rushed into an open restaurant for shelter, it was Papas and Beer. We decided to have an early dinner, and it was awesome. Maybe our opinion was clouded by the fact we were also just happy to be out of the rain. The name is curious, but it is not a Taco Mac type bar, it is just a regular restaurant. It has a broad menu, but I'd say has some similarity to Taqueria Los Hermanos, a bit different from the standard Monterrey/Los Rancheros/Bravos/Toros/etc restaurants that are so common. I think it will do well.

I live right around the corner. I hope it succeeds but it seems most places there are doomed. I think the biggest issue is traffic. That shopping center is nice, decent parking and all, the problem is that it primarily attracts people from only a few of the neighborhoods such as Wexford and Edenwilde. It's about a mile and a half off of 92.

I hope it works out, their menu looks huge and from what I have read they seem to have good food.

Went for the first time to one of their Asheville locations late last year and it was literally one of the best we've ever had. GREAT atmosphere to go with it too!
