[EXCLUSIVE] Marshalls Secures New Suburban Shopportunity

Off-price retailer Marshalls is on the move in East Cobb.  According to newly updated site plans for Merchants Walk (1289 Johnson Ferry Road), Marshalls will occupy approximately two thirds of the former Stein Mart store which closed in 2020 when the Jacksonville, Florida-based company filed for bankruptcy and subsequently closed all of its stores.  An existing store about four miles away in the Marshalls at Eastlake shopping center, would "move" to Merchants Walk later this fall, according to source at the retailer.

The current Marshalls is 27,000 square feet and anchors the center where ToNeTo Atlanta exclusively reported December 21 that goPuff and DashMart from DoorDash will soon open.  In Merchants Walk, Marshalls is taking 24,737 square feet of the overall 36,000 square foot space.  There is no word yet on who may take the balance.

Moving to Merchants Walk would put Marshalls in a center already home to Kohl's, Whole Foods Market and DSW, and get its closer to fellow TJX Companies brands T.J. Maxx and HomeGoods which share space in nearby Providence Square.  Years ago, TJ Maxx left Woodlawn Square [where Lidl is today] when it teamed with HomeGoods to open a combination store in a former Uptons at Providence Square.

Moving to better located, more desirable spaces is something Marshalls has also done several times in recent years in metro Atlanta.

Marshalls moved their Brookhaven store from 4166 Buford Highway (Plaza Fiesta) about 3 miles away to 150 Brookhaven Avenue (TOWN Brookhaven) in 2011.

The company moved their Sandy Springs store from 6337 Roswell Road (City Center Crossing) about a mile away to 5932 Roswell Road (Hammond Exchange), in late 2014.

In 2017 Marshalls moved their store from 3999 Austell Road (Brookwood Square), nearly eleven miles away to 3805 Dallas Highway (Parkside West Park).

Most recently, Marshalls for a second time relocated their Roswell area store in 2019.  The new Marshalls opened at 647 Holcomb Bridge Road (Roswell Village) replacing a then existing Marshalls at 2642 Holcomb Bridge Road (East Village shopping center), about four and half miles away.  The Marshalls in East Village opened in 2008 in what was then a SuperTarget-anchored center.  SuperTarget closed its store in early January 2017.  When Marshalls opened, it had relocated from Kings Market shopping center, also on Holcomb Bridge Road, less than two miles from Roswell Village.

The planned relocation of the Marshalls in East Cobb comes on the heels of ToNeTo Atlanta's exclusive report January 6 that LongHorn Steakhouse also plans to relocate their existing East Cobb area restaurant.
