[UPDATE] Andy's Frozen Custard Inches Closer to Toco Hills Debut

Andy's Frozen Custard is one step closer to opening its second metro Atlanta outpost. The company is currently seeking bids for the construction of its new intown location.  The new custard shop will be built at 3033 North Druid Hills Road in Toco Hills.  Earlier this year, the company was granted a special land use permit (SLUP) from DeKalb County to install a drive-thru at the property.

The property, which was built in 1976, spent much of its life as a Hardee's restaurant (with a drive-thru) but operated as Reggie's Salon until about 2018.  The property is .77 acres and previously housed a roughly 3,500 square foot building that was heavily damaged in a July 2021 fire and subsequently demolished.

ToNeTo Atlanta first reported on the planned restaurant in our December 2021 "Mega Bits & Bites."

The site plan for Andy's Frozen Custard includes a 2,170 square foot building with an additional 665-square-foot covered patio. Redevelopment of the site "will transform this outdated commercial property by adding additional green space along the road and enhancing the pedestrian experience in the property," the company touted in its 2021 SLUP application.

Andy's revealed this past November that its average unit volume hit $1.39 million.

The new Andy's joins Bruster's Real Ice Cream, Menchies and Steak 'n Shake in offering frozen treats in Toco Hills.

Andy's Frozen Custard Toco Hills, like its existing location on Old Milton Parkway in Alpharetta, is owned by franchisee Peach State Custard, LLC.  There are also a pair of Andy's locations elsewhere in the state in Athens and Fayetteville.  Founded in Osage Beach, Missouri in 1986 and now based in Springfield, Missouri, Andy's has more than 100 locations across 14 states.

Sources close to the restaurant tell ToNeTo Atlanta that Andy's Toco Hills is slated to open late this summer.

Are you excited for the addition of Andy's Frozen Custard to Toco Hills?  Have you ever been to an Andy's Frozen Custard?  If given the choice, do you prefer ice cream, frozen yogurt or custard most?

Yes! They are awesome. I have regularly visited their locations in the Chicago and Dallas areas. Even in the dead of winter, they are very busy. Way better custard than Freddy’s or Culver’s. They only do custard, no burgers and fries, so they do it very well. This is going to be hugely successful.

It will be a traffic nightmare at that location.

Just visited the recently-opened Fayetteville one yesterday. Didn't know what to expect. It was delicious! Richer than ice cream or yogurt, so I wish they had smaller sizes (and prices). Good for special occasions.

That is a really hard spot to get in and out of. Maybe they will put an entrance in behind the store into the Toco Hill(s) parking lot near Menchies?

That is great - it can be challenging getting in and out though since it so close to traffic light at the corner of Clairmont Rd and N Druid Hills Rd

Does anyone have any updates on this? Andy's @ Toco Hills actually popped up in my Google Maps searches as "Coming Soon" but then eventually disappeared. Been to Toco Hills since and I don't see any Andy's anywhere.

Also, if it was ever listed, it is no longer listed anywhere on the Andy's website.
