[EXCLUSIVE] Popular Szechuan Restaurant Returning to Powers Ferry Road

Tasty China appears primed for a return to Powers Ferry Road.  Renderings indicate that a new Tasty China is planned for the site of the former Frontera Mex-Mex Grill at 1808 Powers Ferry Road.  The freestanding restaurant building was largely destroyed in an early morning May 2015 fire and sat idle for years before being demolished.

ToNeTo Atlanta first got wind of the planned restaurant in 2020 with progress seemingly having slowed with supply chain and other constraints in the world.  A visit to the property earlier this week, however, revealed that a construction permit for the new restaurant was issued April 13 by Cobb County.  The permit lists the developer as "Shenggen LLC," an entity controlled by Dahe Yang.

Yang, a mainstay in Atlanta's Szechuan food scene, currently operates Tasty China restaurants on Atlanta Road in Smyrna and Franklin Gateway in Marietta, as well as Jia at Ponce City Market in Atlanta. Previously, Yang operated Tasty China II (originally Peter Chang Chinese Cuisine) on Powers Ferry Road in Sandy Springs where Mexican restaurant Mojave operates today.  The Sandy Springs restaurant, which closed in late 2014, is about two miles from the upcoming location.  A replacement Sandy Springs location at Fountain Oaks shopping center opened in 2018 but was sold and rebranded as "Sho Spicy" in 2020.   

The new Tasty China is planned to be two stories, covering about 6,000 square feet.
