Jimmy John's has closed its outpost on Howell Mill Road in West Midtown. The restaurant, located at 1605 Howell Mill Road, opened in June 2015 and closed without warning earlier this month, according to sources in the area. Unlike most Jimmy John's, this location had a drive-thru, but even still, was reportedly not living up to expectations.
Jimmy John's decision to shutter on Howell Mill may have been made easier by the fact that its parent company, Atlanta-based Inspire Brands, recently launched a large ghost kitchen operation - Alliance Kitchen - at 1425 Ellsworth Industrial Boulevard, just over a mile away. Alliance Kitchen, which opened this past November, produces menu items from not only Jimmy John's, but all Inspire concepts - Dunkin', Arby's, Rusty Taco, Sonic, and Buffalo Wild Wings - in a large, centralized kitchen exclusively serving to-go and delivery orders.
In addition to Alliance Kitchen, the company also has a standard Jimmy John's location at 365 14th Street, near Georgia Tech, about two miles from the shuttered restaurant.
Jimmy John's has in recent years also shuttered locations in Toco Hills, Chamblee, and Buckhead at The Peach shopping center, among others. That said, according to its website, there are currently more than 2,700 Jimmy John's across 43 states including about 80 in Georgia.
Are you surprised to see Jimmy John's close this location? Have you gotten food delivered from Alliance Kitchen? What would you like to see open in place of this former Jimmy John's?

Jimmy Johns is great if you need something to help you poop. They used to bring “free samples” (mini sandwiches) to the office all the time to drum up business and every time they did people got diarrhea. Not a good way to get business unless you need a sandwich-flavored laxative.
We need a chicken restaurant please! My mouth need a kfc, Bojangles or Mrs winters. Yummy!
This Jimmy John's has been on death's door for a long time. The last couple times I had gone by there, around dinner time, the store was closed. This would have been 6-7pm or so.
And to the comment above, there are a number of chicken places within a 1/4 mile of this Jimmy Johns.
Yeah I wish it was one of those but didn't you know that there used to be a KFC/Pizza hut just around the corner. But then in 2012 they closed it down and later turned it into a Dunkin donuts
The Jimmy John’s on Howell Mill was the worst run JJ’s I have ever been to.I love their sandwiches but I never went back because of horrible service. Just as well they are closed.
