[Ahoy!] Captain D's Drops Anchor at Dead Donut Shop

A short-lived Dunkin' is being converted into a new Captain D's in Marietta.  The new restaurant - at 725 Cobb Parkway North - is located a few blocks south of the Coca-Cola Bottling Company United property along Cobb Parkway.  A franchise group opened the freestanding Dunkin' in late 2015 but closed it just a year later in late 2016.

Many attribute the closure to neighboring donut shop Tip Top, a locally owned, family run donut shop, which despite having no drive thru (like Dunkin'), seemingly won the David vs. Goliath battle.

The new Captain D's is being opened by Anil Dossani, an existing Captain D's franchisee.  A veteran of the Steak & Shake franchise network, Dossani traded in his burgers and fries for shrimp and hush puppies in 2018.  Along with his business partner, Dossani operates standard Captain D's restaurants in Norcross and Acworth as well as a new "Express" unit which debuted this past August on Old National Highway in South Fulton.  In addition to the Marietta location, Dossani is reportedly also planning a new Captain D's in Ellenwood.

The new Marietta Captain D's will make use of the former Dunkin and it's 1,930 square feet but will see modifications to both the interior and exterior.

Established in 1969 and now headquartered in Nashville, Captain D's has 530 restaurants throughout twenty two states, of which 304 are corporate owned and 226 are franchise owned.  Despite several closures over the years, Captain D's still operates more than 100 locations in Georgia.  Chief seafood rival Long John Silver's, also established in 1969, today operates just over 600 locations throughout thirty seven states but just 11 restaurants in Georgia.  Arthur Treacher's Fish & Chips, another fast-food seafood joint also established in 1969, had at its peak in the late 1970s with more than 800 locations, but today has just one freestanding location left, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

What is your favorite place for quick-serve seafood?  Are you pleased to see Captain D's grow again in the greater metro Atlanta area?  Where else would you like to see Captain D's open in metro Atlanta?

Please share your thoughts below.

Hopefully they can staff that new location and meet their posted store hours, unlike the Roswell location which is constantly understaffed and closes early do due lack of staff.

Any idea when it's scheduled to open?

I'm not a Captain D's fan but glad to see something going into the space besides a CBD or vape shop. Tip Top Donuts is fantastic.
