[CLOSURE ALERT] Nur Kitchen Shutters After Two Years in Doraville

Nur Kitchen, which opened quietly in 2020 but seemed recently to be hitting its stride, abruptly announced over the weekend that it was closing. The cozy restaurant along Buford Highway, less than two miles beyond the Perimeter in Doraville, is part of a bustling shopping center called Global Forum (7130 Buford Highway).

Things for Nur Kitchen, which billed itself as an “authentic modern Mediterranean” restaurant, seemed to turn around dramatically in mid 2021, when the owner of the Forum, Chaz Y. Lazarian, brought in Chef Shay Lavi to helm Nur.  Lavi, whose Rozina Bakehouse in downtown Atlanta had a cult-like following but ultimately closed due to its odd location, seemed to find his calling in Nur.

At Nur, Lavi focused on Israeli and Middle Eastern favorites like schnitzel and shawarma as well as vegetarian offerings like falafel, hummus and plenty of mezzes, or small plates.  The restaurant even made their own pita!  Nur was open five days a week (Tuesday through Saturday) for lunch and dinner.  That said, the restaurant's small size, about 35 seats, and niche offering may have been both a blessing and a curse for it to achieve long-term success.

According to a message posted to the restaurant's facebook and Instagram pages, Nur's final day of operation was Saturday December 3.  The message goes on to thank the community for their support and also hint at "changes" in 2023 saying "Stay tuned for exciting news for Nur Kitchen starting in January."

Did you ever dine at Nur Kitchen?  What is your favorite Middle Eastern restaurant in metro Atlanta?  If Nur Kitchen does reopen, where would you like to see then resurface?

I did go to Nur Kitchen and it was wonderful. Food was outstanding. Really like the kind of cuisine. I do hope it reopens, and somewhere inside the Perimeter. Unless you lived in this area, it was a small vacation to get there.

Great food! Hope they relocate closer into town

It was fantastic! I hope they come back soon. A little closer in would be good but honestly, I was ok with that location.

Last couple of times we were there (and it was always crowded, at least on the weekends, and in fact got politely turned away a time or two) we were told they were moving to a larger space in the same center, AND build out had already begun….

Food was excellent. One of the best in the city. Location was not so good

trying to figure out how they fit 35 tables and a kitchen in that small space??? The previous tenant was kind of a small hole in the wall halal type restaurant, I was in there to check it out and it was very very tiny??? Help me solve the mystery!!!

I checked out the menu several times and it had continued to change so much that you could not estimate in advance if they had certain dishes or not. Also I am completely into Chef driven gourmet however it did seem for the kind of fare that he offered it was definitely overpriced. Is my perception correct?

the site was originally built out for a Subway, which was successful for a while until the franchisee went AWOL. The mexican seafood place in the center does well. Guess Nur's concept was misplaced. Good luck to Chaz on his next venture in that space.

A lot of people raved about but I was unimpressed with the food. The last time I went for dinner several months ago, the restaurant was almost empty and they were out of half the dishes on the menu.
