[CLOSURE ALERT] Popular Brookhaven Bar Bows Out

The Righteous Room Brookhaven apparently closed Tuesday after about nine years in business.  The closure, publicized in a Brookhaven area Facebook group Tuesday evening by someone affiliated with the restaurant, said in part "The Righteous Room in Brookhaven is sadly closing it's doors and everything must go TONIGHT!!."  There was no reason provided for the closure but am employee at the restaurant Wednesday indicated the lease was up and ownership opted not to renew.

ToNeTo Atlanta first reported on The Righteous Room's Brookhaven outpost in September 2013 ahead of their December 2013 debut.   The Brookhaven outpost was located at 2142 Johnson Ferry Road in Old Five Points shopping center.  The original Righteous Room opened in 1996 and is located at 1051 Ponce De Leon Avenue next to the the Plaza Theatre in Atlanta.

Around 2018, the Brookhaven dive bar and restaurant adopted a logo different from the Ponce location and seemingly adopted the "Righteous Bar and Grill" branding shortly thereafter.  That being said, a closure notice on the restaurant's front door Wednesday referred to it as "Righteous Room BH."

Business filings for the Brookhaven restaurant leave more questions than answers with owner Sean Galvin seemingly less involved in the Brookhaven outpost than he once was.  (An employee at Righteous Room Ponce called the two locations "loosely affiliated.") Business filings with the Georgia Secretary of State's office indicate that although  "The Righteous Room North East LLC" (Brookhaven) was renewed this past March, "Righteous Bar and Grill LLC" (also at the 2141 address) was registered this past May by Pamela Shafer and Rebecca Paige.

Both the Atlanta and Brookhaven restaurants have active Facebook pages but neither have been especially active in recent months.  The Brookhaven page was last updated in late September whereas the Atlanta page posted a message Tuesday for the first time since August 27.  In their post, the Atlanta location said in part:

"We know we don't post much these days, but letting you know we still love and appreciate you. So much so that we've decorated a little for the holidays to make it a little cozier and festive for you and your friends this holiday season."

Are you surprised to see Righteous close in Brookhaven?  What would you like to see open in place of Righteous in Brookhaven?  What is your favorite dive bar in Atlanta?

Someone related to the landlord said the owner of RR has a new baby daughter and he's decided to spend more time with his daughter.

We already know what's going in its place. The locals are in tune

Someone related to the landlord said the owner of RR has a new baby daughter and he has decided to spend more time with his daughter, therefore not renewing Brookhaven lease.

The lease was up and in order to renew it they would have had to bring it up to code. The financial situation didn't allow that so they closed it. The owner has lots of babies, and baby mommas, he didn't close for altruistic reasons!

to the poster above, what is going in there in place of RR? The shopping center sign at the very top has had Dogtopia there for quite a while, I had assumed it was going to take the large space from next to the bar

If that wannabe politician J. Max Davis was still Mayor of Brookhaven, this would have never have happened!

A "For Lease" sign has been posted above Wing Ranch for a few weeks now...

All I can say is.it's a bummer. My dog, Maya, would hang out there. The owner drank his profits away. Along side the many babies.
