[EXCLUSIVE] Costa Coffee Brewing Soon in Brookhaven

Brookhaven is getting a new coffee shop!  Costa Coffee, a U.K.-based coffee purveyor, has secured space in TOWN Brookhaven for what will be one of the chain's first American locations.  The new shop will open in a roughly 1,300 square foot space between 26 Thai Kitchen & Bar and Tropical Smoothie Cafe.  The corner space the coffee shop will occupy has in years past played host to several other food & beverage related concepts but never a true coffee shop.

The TOWN Brookhaven (4330 Peachtree Road Suite 320) space was most recently Tin Can Oyster Bar but has been vacant since the eatery closed in June 2019.  Before Tin Can, the space was occupied by Shucks, another oyster restaurant. Originally, when the development first opened, the space was home to The Cup, a "gourmet cupcake cafe," that also offered coffee.

Elsewhere in the center, Copper Coin, then a multi-unit, a locally owned coffee shop, closed its location in TOWN Brookhaven in early 2017.  Copper Coin was located near where Kilwin's and Flying Biscuit are today and was the sole intown outpost for the OTP-based concept.

Costa Coffee was started in London in 1971 and after several ownership changes over the years, was most recently acquired by Atlanta-based The Coca-Cola Company in early 2019 for a staggering $5.1 billion.  Although Costa only last year entered the U.S. market with an outpost at CODA in Midtown, the brand has a significant presence globally with a presence in 44 markets.

According to the Costa website, there are currently more than 4,000 Costa branded cafes globally in addition to 16,000+ "Proud to Serve" placements in 23 markets and 14,600+ Smart CafĂ© machines in 14 markets.  Globally, the company sells 3 million cups per day.

In addition to the Costa at CODA (West Peachtree & 4th Street near Georgia Tech), Costa also opened at the Goizueta Business School at Emory University this past October. In February, the company debuted its first location in a U.S. airport when it opened at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

The Brookhaven outpost will be joined by at least two other Atlanta area Costa locations according to the Costa website.   In the West End, Costa will open as part of the planned food hall at the Lee + White project and in West Midtown Costa will open at 8 West, the new mixed-use development near Howell Mill Road and Marietta Street.

Have you had Costa Coffee?  What chain coffee shop do you think offers the best coffee?  Where else in metro Atlanta would you like to see Costa open?

this will be interesting. We have definitely been on international trips where you see Costa everywhere, not unlike Starbucks here. I think I had their coffee and don't remember much about it (I generally just get a regular cup of coffee), but it will be good if Starbucks has some competition.

I lived in England for one year as an expat, and fell in love with Costa Coffee! I’m so exited to have one in Brookhaven. It is the BEST coffee!

Town Brookhaven is plagued by it's poor design and resulting constipated traffic flow and difficult parking. Good luck to Costa.

It’s just another coffee shop. Why can’t they open a Whataburger there instead?

Coffee from Costa Rico is delicious! Can’t wait to have some in my neighborhood.

And whataburger is just another fast food burger. How about something better?
