[ALERT] Popular Spanish Retailer to Open First Ever Atlanta Area Store

Popular Spanish fashion brand Mango will later this year make its long-awaited Atlanta area debut.  The new Mango is slated to join Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody where it will open in a roughly 8,300 square foot space.  Mango will backfill the former Banana Republic on the second floor of the Macy's wing, putting it across the hall from the sprawling 31,000 square foot Zara, a fellow fast fashion retailer, also based in Spain.

Founded by Isak Andic and his brother Nahman Andic in 1984, Mango has today grown into a global brand with more than 2,500 stores and a presence in 115 markets.  The company is in the early stages of its U.S. expansion with just nine stores open but several more slated to open this year.

In addition to the Perimeter Mall store, Mango stores are also slated for The Shops at La Cantera in San Antonio, Galleria Dallas in Dallas, La Plaza Mall in McAllen, Memorial City Mall in Houston, and Baybrook Mall in Houston.   The Barcelona-based company will also arrive in California with store openings in Glendale Galleria in Glendale and Fashion Valley in San Diego as well as others in Los Angeles, including in Brea Mall, Victoria Gardens, Los Cerritos and Beverly Center in Beverly Hills.

The company on May 11, 2022 debuted its U.S. flagship, a three-level, 22,600 square foot store at 711 Fifth Avenue.  “The store has performed above plan,” Daniel Lopez, the company's director of expansion and franchising told Women's Wear Daily (WWD).  Lopez added that it’s boosted the company’s confidence in its U.S. expansion plan. “We are executing online and offline.” In the U.S. Mango sells on its own website, on macys.com, nordstrom.com, and at its nine stores.

The company is reportedly “on track” with its plan to have 40 stores operating in the U.S. by 2024.

According to Fashion Network, Mango's focus for its U.S. opening will primarily be on its women's collections, except for the Perimeter store which will also feature the brand's men's collections.  Mango releases two major collections a year, for spring and fall, which continually get refreshed with new items.

At Perimeter Mall, a Brookfield Properties Retail Inc. property,  Mango joins fellow fast fashion retailers including the aforementioned Zara as well as H&M and Forever 21.  The popular Dunwoody mall is also home to outposts of Urban Outfitters, Gap, Hollister, Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle, Madewell, lululemon, Express, Anthropologie, Brooks Brothers, Aeropostale and J. Crew, among others.

Mango seems to, at least for now, be eschewing Lenox Square in Buckhead in favor of the more suburban mall that many Atlantans likely view as the more pleasant and safer shopping destination.

(In case you missed it, Mango is replacing Banana Republic, in a mall that is still home to Apple and was previously home to an Orange Julius.)

The new Mango store is currently under construction with sources telling ToNeTo Atlanta it should be open later this fall in time for the holiday shopping season.

Are you a fan of Mango?  Have you been to Mango stores in other countries?  Where else in metro Atlanta would you like to see Mango open?

As I've mentioned in earlier Posts I grew up hanging at Lenox/Phipps, but for a few years have seen Perimeter as the preferable location. I still like the other two places, but Perimeter has almost as much to offer and maybe a little less drama.

I don’t get all this Lenox and Phipps bashing. The only time I find it truly unbearable is on the weekends after 11. I just ran to Lenox this morning to make a quick return and it’s fine. I’ve been shopping there for 20+ years and while they did have some issues a couple of years ago, I feel completely safe. I just make sure I’m aware of my surroundings, but you should do that anywhere. Ironically, a good friend who was born and raised in Dunwoody feels like Perimeter isn’t safe! I think it’s a nice mall too, again it’s just also very crowded on the weekends, so I see no difference. I think timing of when you shop is everything with both malls.

The downscaling of Perimeter continues.

Now we just need a Uniqlo! Always amazes me we don't have one in the Atlanta area.

I’m not sure who thinks Lenox is safer than Perimeter…. This is a great addition. I’m excited.

Shooed in mango in England and Spain and love it! Would not say it was downscaling at all!
