[UPDATE] Brookhaven Has a New Spot For Barbecue

Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q, in the works in Brookhaven for more than two years, quietly opened earlier this week.  The restaurant, located in Brookhaven Station (4058 Peachtree Road), opened Wednesday.  ToNeTo Atlanta exclusively reported on the planned opening in early 2021.  Jonathan Fox, the restaurant's co-owner, first registered "Fox Brookhaven, LLC" December 1, 2020.

The barbecue restaurant occupies a 3,260 square foot space that was most recently Hudson FC, a soccer-themed restaurant from Metrotainment Cafes.  Hudson FC, which opened in 2017 and closed in late 2019, was the sibling restaurant of Hudson Grille, which itself closed in the Brookhaven center in 2020. Prior to Hudson FC, the space had been home to Pub 71 and Meehan's before that.

When Jonathan and Justin Fox started Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q out of their tiny Brookhaven house in 2004, the Atlanta barbecue landscape was very different.  Many of the popular barbecue eateries of today simply did not exist nearly two decades ago.  That said, Fox Brothers has continued to be a local and regional favorite and the brothers have gradually expanded their budding business.

Jonathan and Justin Fox opened the original brick and mortar Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q on DeKalb Avenue in Candler Park in 2007.  A decade later, the brothers opened a second location of sorts within the Terrapin Taproom at SunTrust (now Truist) Park.  In late 2016, the brothers introduced the "que-osk" a mini-restaurant in a converted shopping container at Armour Yards on Ottley Drive.  A huge new location, 9,300 square feet, with two patios and seating for more than 300 patrons, was delayed from an expected 2020 opening before eventually opening August 2021 at The Works off Chattahoochee Avenue in northwest Atlanta.

Good barbecue can he hard to find, but it is also subjective.  In Brookhaven, residents already have two nearby options: Dixie Q, off Dresden Drive, which was opened by Chef Scott Serpas in late 2017, and Old Brick Pit Barbeque, located along Peachtree Road near the Brookhaven/Chamblee line, an area staple since 1976.

Fox Bros. opening in Brookhaven Station marks the second new restaurant to have opened in the center this year following the April debut of the non-traditional Chick-fil-A.  A new outpost of Chopt Creative Salad Co. is expected to also join the center, but its opening - planned for the former Sugar Shack space - has reportedly been pushed back indefinitely.

Are you excited for the opening of Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q in Brookhaven?  What is your favorite local barbecue joint?  What is your favorite barbecue side dish?

I've never understood the big hoopla over Fox Bros. They're good but not my fave. That being said, I will visit the new location with the parking problems at DixieQ

We travel here from CA every few years and Fox Bros is always a must...just tried the new location tonight....LOVED IT!!!

The “hoopla” is due to them being a high-functioning Texas-style BBQ joint. There are others, but Fox Bros. was the first to gain any sort of real notoriety in the contemporary ATL dining scene. The food is generally quite good, and it is a fun environment. But be warned! If you go to Texas and have BBQ there, it will ruin Fox Bros. for you for some time because it actually is that much better in Texas.

I moved here from Texas. Maybe why I dont understand the hoopla. Despite "notoriety", the best BBQ is the one I enjoy the most - Community Q.

Community Q is quite enjoyable.

Fox Bros is the most overrated BBQ of all time.

Love FOX Bros and especially their margaritas. Not a huge BBQ fan and yes, I've been and had lots of Texas BBQ and have never seen the big hoopla there, either. Locally, do love Heirloom by the river and of course, Southern Soul on SSI is worth a little of the hoopla.

Ate twice at Old Brick Pit. First time, there was a cockroach roaming the tables next to me. Hurriedly ate while hoping it did not find my table. Second time, another cockroach crawled over my table. I immediately left and won't be back. Told management and they shrugged it off.

Firstly, thank you Eli for reminding folks to keep Israel in their thoughts and prayers, and if they’re able to is terrible, Biden economy, to donate.

Now onto things a little bit more fun, we went to Fox, Brookhaven, the ribs were OK, we specially like the burnt edges of the ribs is a name for it, but I forget what the name is-The brisket was kind of yucky. We didn’t try the pork barbecue, but I would think and assume based on looking at the operation that it’s very good. Will try the pork barbecue next time around. Be prepared with your wallet. This location only sells the meat by the pound everything gets based on how you order it and then the sides are all à la cart also. They don’t have the full menu available for the sides or the meats. There’s no combo plates available just the à la cart and à la cart sites, the menu is somewhat limited and expensive ribs which are all very tiny and one slice of brisket with only one individual side and one sweet tea ran over $30 I think the secret is to order a sandwich. If they’ll let you have one all the meat does come with the most delicious and fresh and sweet Martin’s sliced bread they don’t have refills on soda because of their cans for about 350 sweetie is refillable. When we were there we saw and met the “twins “ the two Fox brothers pictured above are actually twins. How cute. I say this with love, one is big one of them is big, and one of them is bigger. :-) these guys are really big fans of their own product!

Dixie Q does have parking issues and some of the items on the menu are really really good but at times can taste old and rubbery.

old brick pit is always consistent and always great. Sometimes the ribs are fatty but then all you have to do is let them know and they will change it for you. They have a couple of different kinds of sauce that you need to ask about otherwise they’ll give you the standard. The Brunswick stew is great. The beans are great. The barbecue is great slaw is great and they only serve soda by the can but sweet tea is refillable the prices are reasonable and the place is always spotless. They have a great patio the owners really nice and is always pouring money into his customer experience and surroundings, while keeping the charm of a 70s era barbecue joint, his employees are top-notch and have been loyal to him the last 20 years that I’ve seen

Being Georgia-born, I don't care for brisket. That said, I've had Fox Bros pork a few times and I remember while it was good, it had a LOT of visible fat.

Bummer to learn that the full menu is not available.

Since someone else already brought politics into it I’d like to concur that if we had a Republican in the White House we would all have a lot more money to eat more BBQ. Y’all know it’s true.

I for one am glad most of the Red Hats are too scared to come inside the Perimeter. Stay with your own kind, traitors. Also more room and the better quality restaurants for us inside the Perimeter.
