[CLOSURE ALERT] Local Mexican Restaurant Group Down to Dos After Dunwoody Closure

Cinco Mexican Cantina has closed its restaurant at Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody after about five and half years in business.  The locally owned restaurant reportedly closed quietly last week leaving would-be patrons surprised and disappointed when they tried to visit this week and found the doors locked and the restaurant empty.  The Perimeter Mall location is still listed on the Cinco website and on the mall's website.

When Cinco opened at Perimeter Mall on Cinco de Mayo 2018, it was the fourth unit for the local group.  The full-service Mexican restaurant joined existing locations in Vickery Village in Cumming, Suwanee Jubilee in Suwanee, and at Akers Mill Square near Cumberland Mall.  The Suwanee location closed in early 2019.

In the five plus years since Cinco opened in Dunwoody, the front of the mall, where Cinco was located, has seen more than its fair share of changes.

The Cowfish, a Charlotte-based restaurant which opened at the mall in early 2016, closed in early 2019, with its space largely taken over by a new P.F. Chang's which debuted this past February.

Whiskey Cake and Sixty Vines, both new concepts to Atlanta from Texas-based Front Burner Restaurants, were to have opened at the mall in 2020 but the pandemic killed both deals and neither ever opened.

Max's Coal Oven Pizzeria, which itself had replaced Varasano's Pizza, opened at Perimeter Mall in January 2018, but had closed by December 2019.

26 Thai Kitchen & Bar, a local Thai restaurant with several locations around metro Atlanta, opened in the former Max's this past March.

Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar opened a new restaurant in an outparcel of the mall at the corner of Ashford Dunwoody Road and Perimeter Center West in January 2022.

Buffalo Wild Wings finally opened a new two story "flagship" restaurant this past April at the opposite outparcel, also along Ashford Dunwoody but at its intersection with Hammond Drive.

Breakers Korean BBQ opened beside the now P.F. Chang's space in April 2019 and closed for "maintenance" in August 2023, but never reopened.  Its former space remains vacant.

When Cinco opened, it replaced women's clothing retailer Chico's, but given the infrastructure investment in the space it's most likely that it will become another restaurant rather than reverting back to a retail space.

Are you surprised to see Cinco closed at Perimeter Mall?  What is your favorite Dunwoody area restaurant?  What would you like to see open in place of Cinco at Perimeter Mall?

Not surprised. My team and I are at the Smyrna location a few years ago and the service had all gone done. We all left the restaurant with food poisoning.

Bring back Applebee’s.

I’d like to see a local concept like There Bar move into that space. It’s clear that the chains aren’t getting the right balance between being able to make it work.

Perimeter labor is a problem.
Just dined at the Buffalo Wild Wings, and the service was abysmal.
While the waitress was nice, she was lazy, clueless and failed multiple things. Like refilling water or synchronizing dishes (one came 10 minutes after the other; no apology nor awareness).
Lazy Dog is a bit better.
