[UPDATE] Bagel Business Booming off Broad Street in Chamblee

We first introduced you to The Bronx Bagel Buggy this past July.  At the time, the owners had planned to open in early September.  As is so often the case in restaurant buildout, that timeline came and went, as did October and November.

In late December, however, the restaurant, located at 5494 Peachtree Road, a small strip center near Broad Street and Chamblee's new City Center project, "soft opened," closed for Christmas and again from January 1st through the 3rd for the new year.   Despite the holidays, the eatery has quickly gained a following and lines form outside the small shop on most days.

All the excitement has hit the first-time operators hard with a problem most restaurateurs dream of: selling out too fast!

"We are blown away! Due to the outpouring of support, we ran out of EVERYTHING at our store this weekend. Because of this, we will be closed Monday-Wednesday of this week."

ToNeTo Atlanta visited the shop late morning Sunday and observed a line of more than 20 people spilling out the roughly 1,800 square foot shop and down the street.

"There is nothing to say but a huge THANK YOU! We appreciate your patience as our team comes together to serve you again on Thursday at 7 am."

Despite an Einstein Bros. Bagels having also recently opened in nearby Chamblee Plaza, customers have flocked to Bronx Bagel seemingly choosing to pay a little more for a better tasting, higher quality product.

Business and life partners Steven Novotny and Julie Dragich launched Bronx Bagel Buggy at farmers markets in 2021.  The following they gained at the markets has likely aided them in their initial retail launch but this plug may have helped too.

The duo blended their Italian and Polish backgrounds to create what they feel is the ideal kettle boiled bagel.  The duo's bagels, bagel egg sandwiches, bagel dogs, bialys and famous "bialy bombs," (stuffed bialys) are all available at the new shop as are house-made cream cheeses including Raspberry Jalapeno and Cinnamon Pecan.  Sicilian-style pizzas and bagel chips are also available on select days.

Have you ever had bagels from The Bronx Bagel Buggy?  What is your favorite bagel flavor?  Are you excited about the opening of The Bronx Bagel Buggy in Chamblee?

Gotta love when a new bagel place opens in ATL and everyone fawns over it because the general populace here has no frame of reference for how good a bagel can and should be.

Well worth the wait in line! And their brownies are awesome!

Bialys?! Did I read "Bialys?" I'm there

Agree there’s a lot of shit bagels here but many people here ARE expats from NY/NJ and DO know a good bagel. I’m usually more insulted by the price - $3 for an egg and cheese in NYC and somehow a bagel half the size is $9 in Atlanta.

Food is great and the people so kind but they have to learn how to speed up the “process.” No one has 2 hours to grab a bagel. We spent one hour in line but another hour once our ordered. The girl first takes your order by hand. Then the lady running the cash register is painfully slow and couldn’t read the written ticket so you basically repeat your order why she hunts for the items (15 mins!). Then you wait for your order and once they start making it, they do one item at a time and ask you about each one. Sweet people but efficacy is lacking. Hope they figure it out as the place is cute and the food good.

If you serve it in an ancient, rent controlled, rat infested building and sell millions of them, then it can be $3

I think you are looking at $6 minimum for an egg and cheese bagel at any reputable bagel shop in NYC.

That is just a microcosm of the problems with the Atlanta restaurant scene. We have so many amazing chefs but severely lack in a smart service culture.

Not sure when you last visited NYC. But dont think you will find A $ 3 sandwich in the city.

Also, why would they reinvent the wheel? Go to Ess-a-Bagel and copy their system. Done.

“I know stuff about other bagel systems. I’m smaht!”

In October of 1974, I, with my parents, opened The Royal Bagel in Ansley Mall. On that day, with the line stretching out the door and down the mall, anything that could go wrong, did. I was brought to tears because we had waited so long to get opened. Well, after a really shaky start, we survived for 23 years. I wish Bronx Bagel Buggy all the best and hope that they will be as successful as we were.
Incidentally, when we opened, we charged 13 cents a bagel and when we closed in 1997 they were around 50 cents.

I still miss Royal Bagel!
