[EXCLUSIVE] Nana's Chicken-N-Waffles Looks to Repeat South Side Success in Sandy Springs

A new location of Nana's Chicken-N-Waffles is coming to Sandy Springs.   The locally owned breakfast and lunch eatery, currently with one location in McDonough, is betting their offerings will be just as popular ITP as they are OTP.

The new restaurant is opening in The Prado, a Target-anchored center just inside the perimeter at 5600 Roswell Road, in a 2,800 square foot space left vacant since the 2021 closure of Marlow's Tavern.

Founder Kelli Ferrell opened the first Nana's Chicken-N-Waffles along Flat Shoals Roads in Conyers in 2016.  The restaurant proved popular but much to the dismay of local patrons, the Conyers location shuttered ahead of the McDonough location's debut at the bustling South Point development in late 2022.

Although the restaurant first opened in 2016, it promotes "Recipes since 1939." One might expect the "Our Story" tab on the Nana's website to explain the origin story but instead it states only: "It started from a vision board, then our dreams and prayers became a reality."

The McDonough restaurant has as overall 4.3 star rating on Google with more than 4,300 reviews.

The new Sandy Springs location is opening about a half mile north of where a Waffle House restaurant closed this past December after more than 50 years in business.  There is also an existing J. Christopher's about a mile north in the Kroger-anchored City Walk shopping center as well as locations of both Egg Harbor Cafe and Flying Biscuit Cafe, less than a mile north along Roswell Road.  That said, one has to wonder if there is enough demand for a more upscale ["Secret" menu items push $50+] breakfast & lunch option to open in the area, especially a center as congested as The Prado where upfront parking at their space is limited.

In addition to her restaurants, Ferrell in 2019 published a cookbook Kooking with Kelli: Kollection of Family Recipes from Nana's Chicken-N-Waffles and also sells select products both online and in her restaurants including Kooking With Kelli Kajun Grits, Nana's 24K Maple Syrup and Nana's Take Home Waffle Mix.

Have you been to Nana's Chicken-N-Waffles?  Do you think Nana's Chicken-N-Waffles will find an audience in Sandy Springs?  What is your favorite breakfast spot in Sandy Springs?

Chicken and waffles again??? I've been to her restaurant and it is overrated. Nothing special. Chicken and waffles at one point was special now I see it almost on every breakfast menu. It's like salted caramel. Excited at first but now common flavor. This new location is hidden in a strange shopping center.

Excited for this. Sandy springs is missing places like this. Would love a slutty vegan too!

Seems like a pretty strange concept - live DJ every other Saturday?
The menu looks good though so I'll give them a try.

I’m so ready to get some of that food down home flavor! The last time I visited Ga I stopped in and tried it for the first time. Everything was delicious and yes the portions were enough for a to go box home also. The sips are just as good and gave me just what I needed . I will definitely be returning soon for more!!!

Wish them well but the "new" Prado is pretty cursed for restaurants. T-Mac does ok and I guess Cork Tree is hanging on but I've lost count of places that have come and gone through there.

Takes a lot to lose a Publix. No trouble for the Prado....

Good luck with that!

I have a feeling this place will cause a total trafffic fustercluck on Sunday's, much the way Toast on Lenox Rd.

What is it with Black-owned brunch places having gimmicky overpriced menu items? Probably just for the Gram. I wonder if she'll have hookah as well.

Live DJ every other Saturday is just one degree away from Hookah

My favorite breakfast place in Sandy Springs is First Watch just across the line in Perimeter/Dunwoody. Love that place.

I just looked at the menu and this place is overpriced. Add in the location failure rate this should be a quick close. DJ? How can you enjoy your breakfast/lunch with load music? Is the dance floor next to the bathroom? ... Wonder what will be in this spot next.

Nothing turns me off faster than seeing/hearing "DJ".
