Starbucks is looking to open another Dunwoody Cafe, and this time, it's little more than a stone's throw from where it previously closed one. The new Starbucks is being proposed for an outparcel of Perimeter Square (132 Perimeter Center West) where currently there is just parking.
Planning documents indicate that the new coffee shop would be 3,000 square feet and adopt 140 Perimeter Center West as its address. The coffee company and its local civil engineering firm Gaskins+LeCraw are seeking the inclusion of a drive-thru in the new cafe and have applied to the City of Dunwoody for approval of a SLUP (Special Land Use Permit).
The plan received unanimous approval at the Dunwoody Planning Commission's August 13 meeting and will next be heard by the Dunwoody City Council at their October 15th meeting.
RoughDraft first reported on the plan before the August 13 Planning Commission meeting.
The Seattle-based coffee shop closed a longstanding cafe at nearby Perimeter Pointe in early 2020, a space that has since been backfilled by a new Jersey Mike's Subs.
The "up to 3,000 square foot pad site opportunity" at Perimeter Square was marketed by TSCG (The Shopping Center Group) for several months and was reportedly quite popular, with several other new and growing groups making offers, but with Starbucks winning what became quite the competition.
Once home to CompUSA, Media Play, and Bed Bath & Beyond, Perimeter Square is today anchored by TJ Maxx, Total Wine & More, Academy Sports & Outdoors, Haverty's and PetSmart with FedEx Office and AT&T in the center too.
Dunwoody, and particularly the Perimeter Mall area, appears to be fertile ground for the coffee shop.
In addition to the planned Perimeter Square location, Starbucks operates an existing freestanding cafe along Ashford Dunwoody Road across from Perimeter Mall, inside Perimeter Mall, within the nearby Target in Ashford Lane, and on Peachtree Dunwoody Road across from the King and Queen buildings. The nearby Barnes & Noble also "proudly serves" Starbucks Coffee in its cafe.
Are you excited about the opening of another Starbucks? Do you remember Media Play? What is your favorite coffee shop in metro Atlanta?
