Wawa has announced it will open its first Georgia location next month! The new Wawa is opening in Bainbridge, a city in Decatur County in southwest Georgia. The 6,119 square foot Wawa will be located at 1401 Tallahassee Highway. The new Wawa sits on more than three acres and will include 16 fueling stations.
"We are thrilled to begin our expansion into Georgia with our first store in Bainbridge," said Nancy Dulaney, Director of Store Operations at Wawa.
"We can't wait to host our grand opening and look forward to bringing our unique brand of fresh food, beverages and convenience to Georgia as we further our commitment to providing our new friends and neighbors with not only a new level of convenience but a strong, committed community partner," the company added.
ToNeTo Atlanta reported this past December that the company has at least six stores in its immediate pipeline in Georgia.
The company noted in its Bainbridge release indicated that it has additional locations "under contract" in Brunswick, Jesup, Hinesville, Pooler, Waycross, Bainbridge, Tifton, Valdosta and Albany. The convenience store operator plans to open more than 26 stores in Georgia over the next five to eight years, opening three to four stores per year.
Bainbridge is about 40 miles north of Tallahassee and as of the 2020 census, had a population of 14,468, up from 12,697 at the 2010 census.
Wawa has thus far made no mention of any metro Atlanta plans likely due in part to the high concentration of QuikTrip and RaceTrac locations in the area as well as the limited real estate and escalating property costs.
Pennsylvania-based Wawa Inc. last year celebrated the opening of its 1,000 overall location and today operates more than 1,060 convenience stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, Alabama and Washington, D.C.
Have you been to Wawa? Who do you think is the best convenience store operator? What is your one convenience store guilty pleasure?

Wow Decatur! So surprised it’s that close to Atlanta.
Not the city of Decatur; Decatur County.
I'm a transplanted Philadelphian. The Wawa experience is leaps and bounds over QT and RaceTrac, but I get that land is expensive and locations are limited in the ATL metro area. I hope Wawa finds a handful of good strategic locations to open stores, but it looks like I'll catch them in Georgia when I travel.
Wow, another convenience store can't wait for the next mattress store opening.
I think this is another one of those regional favorites things. I went to a Wawa in Tampa because my Philly friends always rave about the hoagies. imo? meh. it's ok but Jersey Mike's is still better.
Any going in the Athens area
Became a WAWA fan in Florida and can't wait for one in Metro Atlanta or at least along the interstates in the north and east of the state. Great food quality and menu and competitive gas prices. One of the only places that sells 91 Octane gas. Also they usually have EV charging stations (the CEO drives one.)
