Georgetown Cupcake has closed its shop in Atlanta. Located at 267 East Paces Ferry Road in Buckhead Village District, the cupcake shop quietly closed last week after nearly ten years in business. The shop displayed no signage announcing the closure but sources in the area indicate that Georgetown's owners opted not to renew their lease.
The sisters got a publicity boost in 2010 when TLC gave them their own reality show: DC Cupcakes. On the heels of that national renown, the company expanded to Boston in late 2011 and New York and LA in 2012. DC Cupcakes aired from 2010 until 2013.
When Georgetown Cupcake opened in Buckhead on March 7, 2015, it did so as part of an impressive roster of largely out- of-state brands opening their first and/or only locations in Atlanta at the project then known as Buckhead Atlanta. This group included fashion retailers Hermes, Brunello Cucinelli, La Perla, Akris, Canali, Tod's, Etro and Scoop NYC, as well as restaurants American Cut, Dolce Italian, American Food & Beverage, Le Bilboquet, Shake Shack Thirteen Pies, Corso Coffee, Doraku, and Qing Mu. Only Le Bilboquet and Shake Shack remain open at the property today.
Whereas lines were a regular occurrence at the flagship Georgetown location, the Buckhead shop never seemed to attract the same fervor.
Rival cupcake shop LA-based Sprinkles opened at Lenox Square to much fanfare in January 2014 but was closed by July 2018. According to the Sprinkles website, they continue to operate 24 locations across the country.
Georgetown shuttered their New York and LA shops in 2022 and their Boston shop in 2023, in each case citing a lease expiration as the reason.
The Buckhead location is still listed on the Georgetown Cupcake website but has been removed from the Buckhead Village District website. As to what may replace it, the space is not yet being marketed for lease, but one has to wonder if it will remain a food use. When neighbors Doraku and Qing Mu closed in 2020, the Doraku space was later converted into a Tend office, a trendy dental clinic while the Qing Mu space remains empty.
Did you ever patronize Georgetown Cupcake? Was it amazing? What would you like to see open in place of Georgetown Cupcake at Buckhead Village District?

Surprising. Big booty Buckhead women like sweets
LoL so true! Cupcakes are dead
A cupcake store. The perfect setup for a fool and his money.
Poor location with limited parking. Cupcakes were often very dry.
"limited parking" is people's code word for "I was too lazy to park in a garage and walk a bit".
Service was terrible too.
