[EXCLUSIVE] Wahlburgers to Close Battery Restaurant, Exit Atlanta

Wahlburgers will be closing its last remaining Atlanta area restaurant this coming Sunday November 3, according to employees at the restaurant.  The restaurant is located at the corner of Heritage Court and Battery Avenue at The Battery Atlanta.

The burger restaurant, started by chef Paul Wahlberg and his actor brothers Mark and Donnie Wahlberg, opened at The Battery Atlanta in July 2017 as part of the overall development and inaugural season of the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park (then SunTrust Park).

The restaurant, physically located at 455 Legends Place, will be open for regular business hours and close for good at 8 pm Sunday.

A second Atlanta location of Wahlburgers opened at 218 Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta in January 2020.  As we all know, that was a challenging time to run any restaurant, let alone get one off the ground in a downtown neighborhood decimated by reduced business and event travel in the wake of the pandemic.  The restaurant quietly closed at the end of 2022 and remains vacant today.

While the Braves did not have the playoff result we were all hoping for, the team remains among the most popular nationwide.  The Braves and Truist Park ranked fifth overall across both leagues in attendance in 2024.  In 80 home games, the Braves had a total attendance of 3,011,765, an average of 37,647 per game.

Worth noting, too, is that the Braves will finally get to host their third overall All-Star game next July.  The team, originally set to host the Midsummer Classic in 2021, saw the MLB revoke the game and ultimately move it to Denver.  All- Star Game 2025 will take place July 15.  The collective All-Star Week, July 11-15, will also include the All-Star Futures Game and MLB Home Run Derby.

It remains unclear why Wahlburgers is closing now - before the end of the year and also seemingly mid-lease term - but it suggests that The Battery has a replacement lined up and that they want to move quickly to have the new tenant, likely another restaurant, open by next year's All-Star Game.

There are several local and national burger joints and other quick-serve restaurants that would likely have interest in the space, so it will be exciting to see who scores the space.

Are you surprised that Wahlburgers is closing at The Battery Atlanta?  What is your favorite burger joint in metro Atlanta?  What restaurant would you most like to see open in place of Wahlburgers at The Battery Atlanta?

Please share your thoughts below.

Shake Shack is taking over the space

My only surprise is that it has lasted this long. It was pretty good when it first opened, but it’s been bad for a while. The food went downhill, but what really took a nosedive was the service. Terrible waitstaff and ridiculously long wait times. They haven’t had the business they once did in quite some time. I haven’t seen it even half full in a while. There are too many other good choices at the Battery.

Wahoo! ... It was not good. Overrated.

Only ate there twice but seemed to be poorly run. The last time about 6 months ago, the restaurant seemed a disorganized. I wonder if this is more of a local management issue compared to the product if executed correctly.

I opened both of these restaurants! Sad to see them go.

Thanks chaunce

Was excited to try it when it first opened. Service was awful and the burger was just a burger, nothing special. Haven’t been back since.

Very sad to watch this happen. A lot of great staff works there. Came here quite often and will miss them dearly

To read the comments, it either sucked, or it didn't. Must have as it is now closed. Switching gears slightly, look at Wahlburgers meat in the grocery store, the fat content is staggering. Meat flavored fat.

Chaunce, Joe, Nick are all super great. Sorry to hear this guys

It was either good or it wasn’t. It was either meat or fat. It was either raw or cooked. It was either fries or chips. It was either coke or diet come. Either

Either you're an @$$ or just a idiot. My bet is on either.

Is the H&F burger place still open at The Battery?

Yes

It was run poorly because they had to use dei employees. They needed to have the best of the best

Bartenders were obnoxious and thought they were better then what they were

Nic was a horrible manager. Let’s his friends and favorites run the place. Good riddance the place went under

Most of all the staff is terrible. All the female waitstaff were mid of big headed

Fact. Definitely overrated

Being a customer and hearing how management and service staff speak about customers to frequent there, it’s good to see this place go under. Karma.

Most of this horrible staff will end up working at cultivate next door. It’s a buddy system of non talented service workers bouncing from one finesse to the next.

Sometimes you need a little finesse, sometimes you need a lot!

Is Shakeshack confirmed? Would be nice to see Murph’s relocate here as I understand they are moving due to renovations coming to the Galleria.

It’s always sad when something with good potential goes downhill. The comments here say so much. Will be exciting to see what comes in next with such a prime spot!

Overpriced, overrated, poorly managed. The surprise is that it lasted this long.
