[EXCLUSIVE] Popular Seafood Eatery Shutters After Nearly Fifty Years in Business

Captain D's has closed one of its oldest Atlanta area restaurants after nearly 50 years in business.  The restaurant, located at 705 Holcomb Bridge Road in Roswell, opened in 1978 and closed earlier this week, according to sources in the area.

The Roswell restaurant was owned and operated by Trident Holdings LLC, a Murfreesboro, Tenn.-based franchise group.  According to their website,  "Trident Holdings LLC is the largest franchisee of Captain D's Seafood Kitchen restaurants with 57 locations across 9 states in the Southeastern U.S."

Fulton County tax records indicate the Captain D's restaurant in Roswell measures 2,314 square feet and sits on .46 acres.

A separate adjacent parcel, 695 Holcomb Bridge, also saw a restaurant open in 1978 but it was a Shoney's, then owner of the Captain D's brand.  After a series of failed restaurants, the space is today occupied by Kassa's Beer Wine & Spirits.

The quick serve seafood chain also closed a restaurant outside Greenbriar Mall in southwest Atlanta in 2023 that earlier this year opened as a new Popeyes.   ToNeTo Atlanta reported in August that another longstanding Captain D's, this one on Montreal Road in Tucker, also closed.

Other local Captain D's including those on Church Street and Candler Road, both in Decatur, remain marked "temporarily closed" on the Captain D's website.

More than a decade ago, the chain closed several in-town locations but has more recently opened several new units in the greater metro Atlanta area, including those in Marietta (former Dunkin'), Norcross (new build), and Stockbridge (former Hardee's), among others.

Overall the chain operates more than 100 restaurants in Georgia.

Are you surprised to see Dunkin' close in Roswell?  What is your favorite quick-serve restaurant?  What would you like to see open in place of Captain D's in Roswell?

Please share your thoughts below.

The KFC on Holcomb Bridge used to be Danver’s, which was part of the same group at least in the 80s.

Its a popular name brand although not as much as in the 70s, and its food that comes from the sea. Is that funny? “Fish and chips, what a riot!! Ha ha haaaaa!!!”

I hate to see this resturant close. It's country fried white fish was as good as Red Lobster at a much lower price. But, it's not a problem because Red Lobster also closed. Most of the fast food restaurants offer low quality food and other resturants or too expensive to go.
