[ALERT] Another Westside Restaurant is Calling it Quits

Cultivate Food+Coffee revealed Tuesday that they plan to close after about five years in business.  The breakfast and brunch eatery, located at 1952 Howell Mill Road, first opened in February 2019 and quickly became a popular spot for coffee and brunch outings.

Shortly after opening the restaurant was voted one of the "top 20 most exciting coffee shops in the world" in 2019 by Daily Coffee News, an industry publication.  Cultivate was opened by Johnny Liu of Cafe at Pharr.  Liu closed the Westside location of Cafe at Pharr on Chattahoochee Avenue this past October.

According to the announcement on Cultivate's Instagram page, the restaurant will close as of December 22.

Following its closure, the local concept will still have two locations, one at Citizens Market at Phipps Plaza, which opened this past February, and a second at The Battery Atlanta, which opened this past June.  Locations were said to be "coming soon" to Alpharetta and Woodstock but neither have opened and its unclear if they ever will.

News of Cultivate's closure comes on the heels of news that local landmark breakfast spot West Egg Cafe plans to close December 29 after more than 20 years in business and that upstart breakfast joint Pancake Social is up for sale after about a year in business at Westside Paper.

Ford Fry shuttered his West Midtown outpost of Superica this past July after just seventeen months in business.  Wagamama also closed its West Midtown restaurant this past January after less than two years in business.

The Westside has proven to be an especially challenging restaurant market, and we are tracking several other restaurants that are assessing their futures.

Are you surprised to see Cultivate close?  Have you been to either of the other Cultivate locations?  Why do you think so many restaurants struggle in West Midtown?

Please share your thoughts below.

Good food (expensive) but too hard to park there.

The Upper Westside is a b**ch to get in and out of. I will only go there on business when I absolutely have to and will leave immediately once I finish. It's no shock nothing survives there

I was about to say the same thing. Parking there is too expensive for a cup of coffee or casual lunch meal.

Half these places announcing closures lately I've never heard of. On the other hand, we did last trips to Mi Barrio and Java Jive.
