Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse, which opened in Dunwoody in September 2018, is closing after dinner service tonight, according to a source who spoke to ToNeTo Atlanta on condition of anonymity.
The restaurant was likely lured to the project by the promise of plenty of hungry (and highly paid) white-collar professionals at State Farm and other businesses in the area. Unfortunately, however, State Farm never occupied as much of the project as was anticipated and even saw Carvana, to whom the insurance giant had subleased nearly 600,000 square feet in late 2021, terminate its plans in 2023.
When the steakhouse opened, it was owned by Del Frisco's Restaurant Group. Today, following a series of transactions, Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse and sibling restaurant Del Frisco's Grille (DFG) are owned by Landry's, a huge hospitality company based in Houston, Texas controlled by billionaire Tilman Fertitta.
ToNeTo Atlanta was first to report on the closure of Del Frisco's Grille Buckhead in 2023 after 11 years in business.
The upscale Dunwoody restaurant was designed by The Johnson Studio at Cooper Carry, an award-winning, Atlanta-based design firm.
According to Del Frisco's Double Eagle website, there are currently eighteen locations throughout the country, including the one in Atlanta. Four of the chain's remaining restaurants are in its home state of Texas. Following the Dunwoody closure, the next closest restaurants to Atlanta would be in Charlotte and Orlando.

It is surprising to see it close!
It was never very busy and I’ve wondered how it has stayed open this long. Food was solid but you have a lot of other steak houses around this location that do a lot more business.
Why do restaurants do the surprise closure thing? Especially at the end of the year? (Ok, capitalism, but why not give employees a head's up?)
Landry's must have several years left on the lease which makes me wonder if they will rebrand it as another concept.
Been noticing that they've closed early on a regular basis. I'm honestly surprised it lasted this long. ATL just doesn't have enough of a monied populace to support the amount of higher end places.
Surprised it lasted this long considering it was often closed when I passed by recently. ATL just has to accept that it doesn't have the ability to sustain this many upper scale establishments.
We ate at Del Frisco's many times living in Dallas. Excited when they opened here but my husband got sick after the meal there. Service wasn't what it was in Dallas. And they got a failing cleanliness score. Im surprised they lasted this long.
Let's see Dunwoody has Capital Grille, McKendricks, Joey D's, and Fleming's high-end steak houses ALL thriving and within a 5 mile radius of each other.
Atlanta has supported them all, so snarky comments about not being able to support the $11 side dish are stupid mischaracterizations by people probably living in Greenville or some such other back water Southern town. (Lolololol, Greenville is GREAT)
The pandemic cut the legs out of Del Frisco's and they never grew back. Same with Iron Horse across the street, their business model was based on high volume of State Farm and other business types. Those folks never materialized due to the Scourge.
Because the monied populace doesn’t have an effective dentifrice to ensure their dreams of avarice are fulfilled.
Surprised it lasted this long.. Dunwoody, Sandy Springs & Buckhead have so many steakhouses to choose from.. this one did nothing different than the others.
Wrong it was a Covid casualty pure simple. There was suppose to be 3000 people in and around it daily from State Farm and Carvana. Carvana in bankruptcy and state farm might have 500 in the office still remote work.
Agree totally
because they were worried we would steal or not help them work new years eve… Was one of the employees at the other location and they cane in the middle of a shift and kicked us out and now its happening again
If this is true and they didn’t give fair warning then the company would be in breech of the WARN act, https://edd.ca.gov/en/jobs_and_training/layoff_services_warn#:~:text=WARN%20Act%20%2D%20Overview,or%20train%20for%20new%20opportunities. which protects workers from learning of the closure and seeking out employment (in Georgia this is a must for having over 75 employees).
https://edd.ca.gov/en/jobs_and_training/layoff_services_warn#:~:text=WARN%20Act%20%2D%20Overview,or%20train%20for%20new%20opportunities. Look this up if you work there.
Giving them notice usually leads to the employees blowing off their final shifts or they'll steal from the place knowing there will be little to no repercussions.
They don't live in Greenville, they live ITP and would rather eat chicken fingers.
Unprofessional management and corporate sucks. They deserve it
None of those you've listed are that great either, with McKendricks being the worst. And I'm not from some backwater southern town. To me, ATL is a backwater southern town. Since moving here, I see so many things saying they're NY this, or Brooklyn that. Back in Brooklyn, we didn't have anything labeled as being Atlanta this or Georgia that, because nothing from here is worth it. "Empire State of the South" on a shirt? ATL can't compare.
Tried this location on three occasions Food & service, meh.
Hey smart @$$ yankee, if Atlanta is so repulsive to you, why are you here? There are many here who will be glad to pay your way back north.
No, people with money just don’t want to go to chain restaurants at perimeter mall lol
I'm from Atlanta and I don't want anything from or related to New York in our city, especially people who flee it and then complain about how New York was so much better. And to the above poster, people with money do want to go to chain restaurants at Perimeter Mall. Capital Grille and Seasons 52 both do well.
Agreed. Frankly we don’t want you here. Maybe you should go back to Brooklyn or queens. Delta’s ready when you are.
No Alex they live OTP and Perimeter Mall is just too close to the actual perimeter for them. They clutch their pearls and hold their purses tight and lock their doors and roll up the windows fearing a non-white person may be seen nearby injecting panic and fear into all. Better for them to stay home and have the nanny make them an extra PB&J for dinner.
“I’m from Atlanta! I don’t know where I am!”
Well then, for those white OTPers peddling their hate and fear I say to them "No hookah for you my friends!"
Wow! I just enjoyed Christmas 2024 dinner there. Prior to that I had dined there a few other times. I lived in Atlanta for 29 years. I came back these last 3 months of 2024 working a job assignment.
