Nearly nine months after a fire damaged an intown Atlanta McDonald's, the building was recently demolished to make way for a brand new restaurant in 2025. The March 25th fire was reportedly accidental and started when part of the restaurant's rear signage ignited. The restaurant was located at 1105 Northside Drive, not far from Georgia Tech.
A new commercial construction permit was filed with the City of Atlanta on December 19, reportedly shortly after the existing restaurant was demolished. According to the permit, the new restaurant will be 4,147 square feet (nearly identical to the former restaurant) with a roughly $2.5 million construction price. Fulton County property records indicate that the original restaurant was built in 1987 but had received at least one significant remodel around 2010.
Rival burger chain Burger King has for decades been situated beside the McDonald's at 1122 Northside Drive, but recent years have brought a host of new fast-food options to the busy corridor.
A new Cook Out restaurant, Chick-fil-A, and Waffle House have all opened in the past ten years, with Starbucks and Five Guys having opened earlier this year as part of Phase 2 of the expansive Interlock development. ToNeTo Atlanta reported November 19 that Raising Cane's is also coming to the area with the growing chicken chain expected to open in 2025 in place of an existing Krystal at 626 14th Street.
Are you pleased to see McDonald's rebuilding its restaurant on Northside Drive? Are you looking forward to the addition of Raising Cane's to the area? What type of restaurant would you most like to see open in the area?

If you can get insurance to build you a brand new one, why not?
I lived a block from this McD. in HP when I was in college. When their double cheeseburgers were on sale for $1 I used to sometimes splurge and buy two. But then I couldn't afford a box of cereal for breakfast for the rest of the week.
Back when cereal cost $2 a box. In 1974.
I haven't eaten one of my favorite cereals for several years. The other day I saw it is now $8 a box. I'll never eat it again!
1994 actually (generic kroger & winn dixie)
All food is more expensive now! I’ll never eat food again. I’ll have to eat rocks and dirt now, they’re free.
If you grab a jug of milk then walk over to the cereal aisle and rip open a box of cereal and dump some in your mouth then take a swallow if milk, its free.
