[CLOSURE ALERT] Mellow Mushroom Slices Decatur Restaurant... Again

Mellow Mushroom announced Monday that it has closed its location in Decatur... for a second time.   The most recent Mellow Mushroom was located at 340 West Ponce having opened in December 2016.

The company posted a statement to its official Facebook page announcing the closure but did not indicate the reason for it.

"It is with a heavy heart that I announce the closure of Mellow Mushroom Decatur. It has been an absolute pleasure working in this community and we will miss being able to be your go-to pizza place! We love you all and thank you for the years of joy you have brought to our Mellow team."

A franchise of the Atlanta-based pizzeria previously closed at nearby Commerce Square (265 Ponce de Leon Place) in May 2014 after fifteen years in business.  The original Decatur location later became a DaVinci's pizza location in early 2015 but closed by the end of 2017.

Reportedly due to onerous franchise update requirements, several Mellow Mushroom locations have closed over the years including those in Douglasville, Lawrenceville, and Peachtree Corners.

Following the closure the company continues to operate more than twenty locations around metro Atlanta including one of its original restaurants on LaVista Road near Toco Hills and another that debuted this past December on Boulevard in Grant Park.

Are you surprised to see Mellow Mushroom close its Decatur restaurant again?  What would you like to see open in place of Mellow Mushroom in Decatur?  What is your favorite local pizza spot?

Please share your thoughts below.

I heard they are going to reopen after clearing the franchise issue, as an independent pizza joint “Yellow Pushbroom”

I wish they would close the so-called "Buckhead" location, with it's sh*t hole parking lot, and put one in Buckhead proper. Mellow Mushroom is my favorite, but I more often get Johnny's because MM is just so hellish to get in and out of.

I know you’re joking, but a number of Mellow Mushrooms have quickly converted over to independent operators. What’s the problem with Mellow Mushroom? Exorbitant franchise fees?

That Decatur location went to hell a few years ago. Absolutely terrible customer service. The pizza is good but the service was awful. Needed silverware once and asked a waiter .... He pointed me to an area and told me to get it myself. It was a wrap with plastic utensils meant for takeout. Several employees smelled like dope smoke once. Unfortunate, because the pizza is actually really good.

The Buckhead/Peachtree Rd location always needs employees so hoping some of those displaced can move to that location. A three with Anonymous above, the parking sucks so bad for that location…

In fairness to thos employees, isn't the whole concept based on drug related references?

The parking is awful here, you are correct. Don’t bother ordering for pickup, there won’t be anywhere to park when you get there.

Smelling like dope and having attitude are hallmarks of Atlanta workers.

I have been a customer of Mellow Mushroom for 15 years … until the abysmal customer “service” at their Johns Creek location turned me off of MM for the rest of time.
There are way too many places slinging pizza to put up with untrained children who think they’re “management” material.

Who cares if they smoke weed? You might stink like Marlboros or dirty ass.
