Kevin Rathbun is quietly putting the finishing touches on a new restaurant. Really it's a return of a previous restaurant with a new concept and location: Krog Bar Coal Fired Pizza.
The original Krog Bar, which opened in 2005, was a wine bar with Spanish-style small plates, along with Rathbun's, circa 2004, the chef's namesake upscale restaurant, closed in May 2020. The closures, on which ToNeTo Atlanta was first in the city to report, were the result of redevelopment plans that property owner Asana planned then and has since executed on at the property.
The chef continues to operate Kevin Rathbun Steak at 154 Krog Street.
While Rathbun was a pioneer in the now uber hot neighborhood that is Inman Park and opened years before even the first first phase of the Atlanta BeltLine, the chef has made Peachtree Hills, and specifically ADAC West, where his businesses are situated, a neighborhood favorite. KR Steakbar debuted in February 2013 followed by The Bureau about two years later.
The new Krog Bar occupies a space formerly home to Harmonious Living by Tish Mills Interiors, a local design firm that relocated to the main ADAC campus at 351 Peachtree Hills Avenue. The newly minted restaurant space is small, about 1,000 square feet according to a permit filed with the City of Atlanta, but has a pleasant patio out front for al fresco dining. The permit, filed last May, suggests that The Johnson Studio at Cooper Carry, a local design firm that collaborated with Rathbun on several prior restaurants, was responsible for the Krog Bar revamp, too.
When ToNeTo Atlanta visited the space this week it looked as if it was merely closed for the night given how ready it was. A ToNeTo Atlanta reader first tipped us off to the eatery earlier this month and suggests it has looked "done" for several weeks. That said, we are told that Rathbun plans to be up and running with Krog Bar in early August.
Are you excited for the (re) opening of Krog Bar Coal Fired Pizza in Peachtree Hills? Who in Atlanta do you think makes the best overall pizza? What is your favorite Buckhead area restaurant?

Coal makes me think of filthy, black coal dust, thick, smelly smoke and coal ash sludge in the bottom of power company reservoirs. But I'm sure it will be good, and a smashing success. Not to mention pricey as hell.
Atlanta seems inundated with pizza. Not being a great fan of pizza, this is a little less than exciting. Kevin is a great chef, however, and my very best wishes are with him. I have enjoyed his food since he came on the Atlanta scene.
Big fan of KR Steak Bar. Food and atmosphere are consistently good. Excited for this addition to the neighborhood.
Way to pat yourself on the back. Spoiler alert: no one cares that you were the first to report on a restaurant's closure in 2020.
Very excited for this! The food at KR is excellent, so this is great addition. Great win for the PH neighborhood!
this!
I love seeing comments like this posted here. It demonstrates that Eli has no ego and he's a champion of free speech and expression. Something lacking on the internet these days.
KR Steak Bar has become our favorite, especially The Bureau, and look forward to Krog Bar.
Why are there no hookah bars on the Eastside Beltline?
What is your problem he/her/them/they/you fat pig! This is Eli's page and he can do what he wants! Thank you Eli! You do you baby!
