[CLOSURE ALERT] Duck Donuts Franchise to Serve Final Donut in Marietta

The Duck Donuts franchisees in East Cobb announced Tuesday that they will be closing their shop after six years in business.  The donut shop, located in the Whole Foods Market-anchored Merchants Walk shopping center, first opened in July 2019 and was, the third in metro Atlanta, joining others in Alpharetta and Chastain Park.

Duck Donuts East Cobb is located at 1281 Johnson Ferry Road in a 1,350 square foot space between Mirko Pasta and Chipotle.

"Dear Guests, For reasons beyond our control, we are announcing the closure of our store.  Our last day is August 17th.   We can not thank you enough for your support over the last six years.  We have truly enjoyed serving you.  Hope to see you at the store during these final two weeks for one more "Warm, Delicious, Made-to-Order Donut!"

With Gratitude, Christine Doring and Drew Doring"

According to a report by East Cobb News, "Customers will get 35 percent off their orders when redeeming Duck Donut gift cards through the closure."

The East Cobb closure follows the closures of the Duck Donuts in Chastain Park (Tuxedo Festival) and Toco Hills (Toco Hills shopping center).  Coincidentally, all three centers are owned by Edens, the same real estate firm behind the Lulah Hills project in North DeKalb County.

A Duck Donuts in Savannah closed in December 2023.

Following the closure, franchises of the Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania-based donut shop remain open in metro Atlanta in Alpharetta at Old Alabama Square (3005 Old Alabama Road) and Acworth at Stilesboro Oaks (1720 Mars Hill Road), which opened last summer.

Are you surprised to see the East Cobb Duck Donuts close? Who in Atlanta do you think makes the best donut?  What would you like to see open in place of Duck Donuts in East Cobb?

I found it to be a cute concept for kids - pick your own topping. But I want a variety of actual donuts. Not a variety of toppings. So I went once, and I didn’t desire to go back.

It's tough for people to justify spending several dollars per donut when the price of basic food (meat, vegetables, dairy products) has risen to the point where it is hard to even afford the basics. It doesn't surprise me that these types of self indulgent food shops, like this donut chain, coffee shops, ice cream parlors, and overpriced specialty restaurants, are closing left and right.

I really like Duck Donuts and think it's a good concept. Hate to see their locations not doing well.

Coffee shops are actually opening at an alarming pace.
