Nando’s PERi PERi, which entered the metro Atlanta market last August with a restaurant in Dunwoody's High Street development and added a second unit this past February at The Forum in Peachtree Corners, now has an intown location in the works.
The restaurant, which specializes in South African fare and is especially known for its PERi PERi chicken, is slated to replace Bar Mercado, the Latin restaurant from Atlanta's Castellucci Hospitality Group, that closed in December 2023 after five years in business.
The permit describes the space as 3,464 square feet and indicates that $500,000 will be spent converting the space to suit Nando's needs. The permit does not mention it, but the space also includes a spacious patio adjacent to existing eatery Superica and with easy access to the Atlanta BeltLine.
Nando’s got its start in South Africa in 1987 and made its U.S. debut in Washington D.C. in 2008. The chain currently has 46 U.S. locations across Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Texas, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. In total, Nando’s has more than 1,000 locations across twenty one countries.
Real estate sources tell ToNeTo Atlanta that a fourth unit, also ITP, is in the works and should, like the Krog Street unit, open in 2026.
Are you pleased to see Nando's expanding to intown Atlanta? Have you ever been to Nando's? What new or upcoming BeltLine-adjacent restaurant are you most excited about?
