Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse plans to permanently close its restaurant at Phipps Plaza in Buckhead. ToNeTo Atlanta first got wind of the planned end of year closure in November but the news was officially confirmed this week when employees were informed of the imminent closure.
The restaurant, which occupies a roughly 10,000 square foot space on the first level of the Buckhead mall, first opened at the mall in 2010 and previously closed for several months between mid 2020 and 2021 as a result of COVID-19 related shutdowns. The restaurant was thought then to have been closed for good but reopened November 17, 2021 after completing a reported $250,000 renovation.
Davio's closure at Phipps Plaza comes on the heels of "reimagining" of the failed food hall formerly known as Citizens Culinary Market into the the far more exciting "Food Hall at Phipps." Full service restaurants including Grand Luxe Cafe, Public Kitchen & Bar (Agency Socialthèque), The Tavern at Phipps and Genuine Pizza have also all closed in the past few years at the once lively Buckhead mall.
Phipps Plaza owner Simon ultimately backfilled the former Genuine Pizza and Tavern at Phipps spaces with more retail while the former Agency and Grand Lux spaces sit empty and idle. (As for the mall itself, longtime General Manager Eric Howard was reassigned earlier this fall to Desert Hills Premium Outlets in California, and Laken Wilmot, a management veteran of both Macy's and Belk, was named the new General Manager of Phipps Plaza in November.)
Following its closure in Atlanta on December 28, Davio's will continue to operate six traditional restaurants in its home market of Massachusetts, an airport location at Logan International Airport in Boston, as well as restaurants at King of Prussia Town Center in King of Prussia, PA and another at Reston Row in Reston, VA.
