The LA Fitness at 1185 Ernest Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw is closing this month after fourteen years in business. The gym's last day will be Thursday December 18. A second Kennesaw LA Fitness on Wade Green Road will remain open.
The property was purchased in May 2024 by Atlanta-based D&G Development Group, the same firm that previously redeveloped the adjacent former Sweet Tomatoes (Barrett Corners) and onetime HiFi Buys (Barrett Corners II). Michael Davis, a partner at the firm, said at the time of the closing that the property "will be a long term play and a potential third phase to our Barrett Corners redevelopment."
Cobb County tax records indicate that D&G, through their 1185 Barrett LLC, paid $11.64 million for the 4.65 acre property, imputing a price per acre of roughly $2.5 million.
Following its closure in Kennesaw, LA Fitness will operate 38 gyms around Georgia including the aforementioned location on Wade Green, as well as those in Buckhead, Midtown, Tucker, and Atlantic Station.
For those looking for a nearby gym, Crunch Fitness opened a new location in the former Bargain Hunt in nearby Barrett Crossing in August 2024.
What would you like to see open in place of the LA Fitness in Kennesaw? Are you pleased by the new additions to the Kennesaw area? What is your favorite?

I miss Australian Body Works. LAF bought them out and the whole thing turned into a dumpster fire.
