[UPDATE] Months After Decatur Closure, Rusty Taco Summerhill Listed For Sale

The Summerhill location of Rusty Taco has been listed for sale after less than two years in business.  Rusty Taco in Summerhill marked the Dallas, Texas-based franchise's first unit in metro Atlanta.

The quick-serve restaurant, located in a roughly 2,600 square foot retail space at Summerhill Station (572 Hank Aaron Drive), opened in early July 2024 and is now being marketed for sale as a "keep or convert" opportunity.

A Decatur outpost of Rusty Taco opened in December 2024 and closed this past September after just nine months in business.

MBC Concessions, the local franchisee behind Rusty Taco's expansion, was to have opened as many as ten locations of the taco joint in metro Atlanta.  As its name suggests, the franchisee is an experienced operator of restaurants at several airports, but Rusty was seemingly the group's first non-airport endeavor.

Steve Josovitz with The Shumacher Group is marketing the Summerhill location for sale.  (In a separate listing, Josovitz is also marketing for sale Boca, a Mexican restaurant, at 39 Georgia Avenue, in Summerhill.)

According to the listing, "$1,000,000" was spent building out the space which is said to be in "mint condition."  The space comes with a monthly (all in) rent of $11,500 with a ten year lease and two five year renewal options.  Books and records are reportedly not available at the "fire sale" price of $195,000.

Rusty Taco was previously owned by Atlanta-based Inspire Brands, an affiliate of Atlanta-based private equity firm Roark Capital, but was sold to Gala Capital Partners (GCP), an investment firm focused on "emerging restaurant franchise brands," in December 2022.  The brand was then a 32 unit chain, but has today, inclusive of Summerhill, shrunk to just 29 units.

Rusty Taco seems destined to follow in the footsteps of other taco chains that have closed some (Chronic Tacos) or all (Capital Tacos) and (Chando's Tacos) of their Atlanta area locations.

Have you eaten at Rusty Taco in Summerhill?  Are you surprised to see Rusty Taco for sale?  What would you like to see open in place of Rusty Taco in Summerhill?

The service at this location is not horrible. I've been before and can say the service was top notch. The food on the other hand wasn't anything to rave about. It was good but I would rather have Rreal Tacos or a Chipotle in the location.
