CMX CinéBistro has closed its ten screen theater at Halcyon (5180 Town Center Boulevard) in Alpharetta.  The theater spanned nearly 38,000 square feet and helped anchor the mixed-use development.

It seems Regal Cinemas Hollywood 24 will be the next cinema complex to cease operations in metro Atlanta.   Located at 3265 NE Expressway and visible off I-85, the 24-theater complex opened May 19, 1999, with the debut of Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace.  

[That's All Folks] Tara Theatre to Show Final Four Films, Close Forever

The historic Tara Theatre (Regal Tara), one of the longest running, continuously operating movie theaters in metro Atlanta, is closing its doors forever.   There was speculation in 2020 that the Atlanta art house cinema – which opened on July 10, 1968 playing the re-release of the epic "Gone With the Wind – would, as a result of the pandemic, not reopen as other theaters had.

A familiar space will host the debut of a new movie theater chain in metro Atlanta.  LOOK Dine-In Cinemas, which launched in 2021 and is based in Dallas, Texas, will in October open in the former CMX CineBistro in TOWN Brookhaven.

Baldino's Giant Jersey Subs has closed its Marietta location at 80 Powers Ferry Road, not far from the big chicken. The closure took place in November but was recently brought to our attention by a loyal reader in the area.  ToNeTo Atlanta visited the restaurant earlier this week and found signage posted to the door that indicated that the restaurant's owners were unsuccessful in reaching a deal with the center's landlord to keep them in their location which has been in business since 1984.  

[EXCLUSIVE] Self Storage Facility Planned For Site of Former Theatre

A local developer plans to convert a former movie theater in  East Cobb into a new self storage facility.  A representative of Stein Investment Group (SIG) submitted plans to Cobb County that indicate the real estate firm wants to convert the existing 253,247 square foot former Park 12 Cinemas into a Climate Controlled Self Storage Facility (CCSSSF). The firm would also construct a second 33,785 square foot CCSSSF outparcel building on the 5.81 acre site.  Park 12, owned by Georgia Theatre Company, closed at the end of 2020 after 27 years in business.  

[UPDATE] Alamo Drafthouse Declares Chapter 11, Closes & Cancels Select Locations

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, the popular theater chain known for premium food and drink options and their strict no-talking rules, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.  The Austin-based company announced the bankruptcy Monday as well as an asset purchase agreement with partners that will assist the chain in continuing operations and remaining a going concern.  The chain, which operates forty theater locations nationwide, sold itself to Altamont Capital Partners, a previous investor in the company, to affiliates of Fortress Investment Group, a new backer, and to Tim League, Alamo's founder.

[THAT'S ALL FOLKS] Park 12 Cobb Cinemas in East Cobb Has Closed

Georgia Theatre Company's Park 12 Cobb Cinemas has closed.  The 12 screen theater, located at 2925 W. Frank Gordy Parkway in East Cobb, closed as of December 31, according to ToNeTo Atlanta reader in the community and confirmed by a notice on the theater's website.  As of Sunday afternoon, there was no signage at the theater to indicate the closure.  The theater's website directed would-be patrons to the company's sister location, Merchants Walk Stadium Cinemas 12, about seven miles away.  

[EXCLUSIVE] The Curtain Closes for CMX CinéBistro in Brookhaven

CMX CinéBistro has closed its theater in TOWN Brookhaven.  The 760 seat, seven screen theater, which temporarily closed in early February due to a "small fire," and remained closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, has now been removed from the company website with sources telling ToNeTo Atlanta that it will not reopen.  CinéBistro is also noticeably absent from both the property website for TOWN Brookhaven as well as a recent advertisement promoting all tenants of the project.   

[LIGHTS OUT] New Vision Theatres Shuts Down Completely

After about three years in operation and despite no known financial struggles prior to the COVID-19 crisis, an 18 location roughly 200 screen movie theater operator, has shut down permanently.  New Vision Theatres, established in April 2017, was formed by the acquisition and consolidation of  theaters from AMC Theatres and Carmike Cinemas, among others.  In Atlanta, the company operated two locations: New Vision Theatres Stonecrest 16 +IMAX in Lithonia and New Vision Theatres Movies 400 in Cumming.  

[LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!] NCG To Debut New Movie Theater in Brookhaven

It has been nearly seventeen months since ToNeTo Atlanta was first to report that movie theater operator NCG planned to open a new theater in Brookhaven.  We are now pleased to share that despite the global pandemic, and most theaters still closed, they plan to open in Brookhaven next week.  The new ten screen NCG Cinema Brookhaven will celebrate its "grand" opening Thursday June 4 at Northeast Plaza along Buford Highway near Briarwood Road.  

[UPDATE] Studio Movie Grill Moving Forward at Mansell Crossing Near North Point Mall

Dallas, Texas-based Studio Movie Grill is moving forward with plans to open a new dine-in movie theater on North Point Parkway at Brixmor Property Group's Mansell Crossing shopping center in Alpharetta.  The new theater would replace the former AMC Mansell Crossing 14 which closed June 3 after nearly 25 years in business.  Plans for the new Studio Movie Grill were approved by the City of Alpharetta Design Review Board earlier this year.  The theater is now seeking approval of several exterior signage requests including one that seeks to "increase the sign area of a wall sign on the rear elevation of the building facing the Big Creek Greenway."  

[ACTION!] CMX CinéBistro Open in Peachtree Corners, Coming Soon to Halcyon

A new location of CMX CinéBistro opened earlier this month in metro Atlanta and the company is bullish on the market for additional locations.  The new approximately 35,000 square foot CinéBistro which anchors the new Peachtree Corners Town Center development is located along Peachtree Parkway, across the street from The Forum.  The theater, officially located at 5180 Town Center Boulevard,  features six screens, a full bar and premium in-theater dining options.
