Sheik Burrito Taking His Grub To The Streets

Sheik Burritos n Kabobs had hoped to go mobile before going bricks and mortar, but that didn't happen. Now the Sheik plans to go mobile within the next few months, (City of Atlanta red tape permitting.) A seven year veteran of Houston's restaurants, owner Jahan Ostad brought his personal culinary creations to the masses with Sheik Burritos n Kabobs. Opening this past November on Piedmont Road in a space that most recently housed Da Chicago Dogs, the Sheik has carved out a niche in the area and already has a number of regulars. Described as cutting edge Persian / "Southwestern fusion," Ostad uses only natural meats and makes all marinades and sauces on site. With diners wanting healthy meal options and at the same time wanting these options in abundance, a mobile food cart seems like a great idea! On my visit I got the burrito "dog style" (in a bowl) and would love to have this meal often. While I don't live far from the Piedmont Road location, a food cart would allow Ostad to extend the reach of his eatery to areas cost prohibitive to a bricks and mortar location. Food Carts have become such a hot button locally that established food journalist Christiane Lauterbach started a blog, Atlanta Food Carts, detailing the area food cart scene, or as is currently the case, lack thereof. With Jenny Levison of Souper Jenny putting the final touches on her mobile eatery and the Streatery planning an expansion down Peachtree, there is hope for more mobile dining options still.
