Bits & Bites

Mi Rancho Comida Hondurena #2 will celebrate its Grand Opening this coming Friday, June 29.  The new Mexican and Salvadorian restaurant, opening in a former McDonald's, is opening on Roswell Road in Marietta and joins the original location at 760 Sandtown Road SW, also in Marietta.

Hollywood Feed, a "natural & holistic" pet food store, will open later this summer in a 3,577 square foot space near Fox's in Sandy Springs Plaza on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs.  The Memphis-based retailer sells only dog and cat food and had quickly expanded throughout metro Atlanta since entering the market last year.  Among the chain's twelve current Atlanta area locations are those in Paces Ferry Plaza on Northside Parkway in Buckhead, Peachtree Station in Chamblee and Tucker Meridian in Tucker.  Another new store is planned for the upcoming 365 by Whole Foods Market anchored North Decatur Square near Decatur.  Metro Atlanta's open/planned 14 stores make it the retailer's second biggest market behind Texas, where the company currently operates 25 stores.

The existing Checkers restaurant at 41 Cobb Parkway has reopened after a multi-month renovation process.  The twin drive-thru eatery now sports the Tampa-based chain's latest graphics and design.  Despite the updates, the restaurant's website is still a little behind and in multiple places still refers to it as "temporarily closed."

A new Burger King is planned for 5620 Canton Highway in Cartersville.  The new restaurant will replace Aquaholics Pools, adjacent to Days Inn. The new Burger King is being opened by Atlanta-based GPS Hospitality Partners, LLC, one of the largest Burger King franchisees in the county.

The new Kroger Marketplace store at Bethelview and Castleberry Roads in Cumming opened yesterday, Wednesday June 27.  The store is 123,000+ square feet and is similar to other Marketplace stores in Savannah, Gainesville and Carrollton, among others.  The store had been in the works since at least 2015.

Krystal plans to demolish and rebuild their existing restaurant at the corner of 14th Street and Northside Drive with a new location that will feature the company's updated design.  The new restaurant will be about 1,700 square feet and should look similar to the planned replacement Krystal on Piedmont Road in Buckhead that ToNeTo Atlanta reported this past March.  Krystal, which began in Chattanooga in 1932, moved its headquarters to Dunwoody in 2013.  The company plans to "scrape and rebuild" at least 100 locations in the coming years as it works to update its image and increase restaurant traffic.

Local Vine, a new store offering beer, wine and spirits, plans to open soon at Parkway Point on Cobb Parkway.  The new 18,136 square store will join existing anchors Main Event and AMC Theatres at the popular center and will occupy space previously home to Old Navy before their relocation to nearby Akers Mill Square.

Chef-owner Jenny  Levison is opening a Roswell outpost later this fall and is closing her Decatur restaurant with plans to relocate it in the future. The Roswell Souper Jenny is to be located at 589 Atlanta Street, behind the Red Door Playhouse and the Roswell Visitor’s Center. Souper Jenny Decatur opened in early 2014  in a short lived Pita Pit at 1 West Court Square, just off East Ponce de Leon Avenue in Downtown Decatur.  Levinson blamed poor parking for the decision to close in Decatur while sources close to the restaurateur indicate a planned rent hike played a part as well.   Levison reportedly has plans to expand to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and is looking into a possible location along  30A in northwest Florida.

Women's clothing and gift retailer Francesca's will be expanding and relocating at Perimeter Mall to the recently vacated Mori Luggage & Gifts space, also on the second floor.

Culver's plans to open their new Kennesaw restaurant, just off Cobb Parkway, at 2454 Kennesaw Due West Road, this coming Monday, July 2.
