New J. Crew Concept Has "Made" Its Way to Atlanta

Madewell, a new concept from J. Crew will be opening soon at Lenox Square. Located next to the new Pottery Barn on the main level, the store looks far smaller than the J. Crew store also already at the mall. The store will carry women's casual and affordable apparel, priced at 20-30% less than J. Crew merchandise. With 7 stores open to this date, this is the 2nd additional store in development. Expect an opening in late Summer.

The Lenox Square J.Crew is also said to be in negotiations with mall officials to relocate to a bigger space in the Mall sometime this year or early 2009, so that they can add space for their Crewcuts line (store within a store) and offer additional items not offered online or at other J.Crew stores. The Lenox Square location is considered a flagship store. Also, the J.Crew locations at the Mall of Georgia and North Point Mall are said to be locations that could see the addition of the Crewcuts line or free standing Crewcuts store locations.

I recently learned from a reliable inside Simon source, that the Mall of Georgia will be getting a new marketing director from a thriving west coast Simon Mall, whose task will be to recruit new tenants. MOG officials are said to be in negotiations with Bloomingdale's to construct a 3 level store in the void anchor tenant space on the Nordstrom wing in the corridor between Mayor's and bebe. MOG will also add an Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, Pottery Barn Kids, Ruehl No. 925, Gilly Hicks, 77Kids (new A&E kids store concept), Crate & Barrel (in the former F.A.O Schwarz space in the village area, Brooks Brothers, Lacoste (in the former Discovery Channel store space), and J.Jill between now and Spring 2009. Also, look for a relocated and expanded American Eagle flagship store, a renovated Victoria's Secret, and a renovated J.Crew before Holiday 2008.

In regards to the most recent comment, thus far I have been unable to confirm any of the "would be" stores for M.O.G. Also it seems highly unlikely given the current status of the economy that stores such as the ones reported would be opening in such markets as Buford Georgia. Bloomingdale's for one is and has been experiencing problems having two locations in Georgia, a third, especially @ M.O.G. makes about as much sense as Belk at Phipps.

Upon visiting M.O.G. recently I was told basically that none of the previously mentioned upcoming stores are in the works, nor is there the demographics to support them. For one, the former F.A.O. Schwartz is currently being renovated for a S&K Menswear, NOT a Crate & Barrel. Also it was confirmed that the gigantic space boarded up across from the box office on level two will be the H&M. Simply put; the demographics of Buford do not and will not support the likes of Ruehl 925 or Lacoste or Urban Outfitters nor many other of the mentioned retailers.
