Kevin Gillespie's BBQ Joint Confirmed

Top Chef finalist Kevin Gillespie has been talking for months about opening a second restaurant and I have now confirmed when and where. (The deal is all but finalized but won't be made official until later this week.) Located in the former Brake-O at the corner of Piedmont Road and Piedmont Circle, the new restaurant will have an Atlanta-centric name and is due to open in November. Less than a half mile from his now wildly popular Woodfire restaurant, the new eatery will be a BBQ restaurant with no menu per se. Gillespie will roast two Berkshire hogs per day, rotating various side dishes, and when the food gone, it's gone for the day. Sources tell me numerous restaurants had expressed interest in the site but the landlord seemed keen on having Gillespie in the space if for no other reason that his celebrity status is sure to make the place an instant hit. Given the site's prime location, and the fact that it's a former garage, it should be fun to see how the space is modified to make the conversion to restaurant. Fatt Matt's Rib Shack can't be too happy having Gillespie's new place less than a half mile from their eatery, but hey, what can you do? ToNeTo Atlanta

I always thought that Brake-O was such a horrible looking place. I'm glad to hear we're getting a non-chain restaurant in that space.

I love the sound of this. There was a BBQ place outside Savannah that did the same sort of thing, so they only served Thursday thru Sunday. Inventory can kill small business and this is innovative thinking.

Yay, with Flip and Sotto Sotto opening in Buckhead also maybe the glut of good but not too expensive places will once again be resurfacing.

Yay not a burger joint! Awesome location too, the building lends itself well to a BBQ restaurant.

there is not enough parking to meet zoning.
