Restauranteur Hopes to Turn Vacant Chicken Joint into a "Winner"

A new concept will soon open in shuttered Mrs. Winners Chicken & Biscuits / Del Taco on Piedmont Rd. The restaurant located at 1958 Piedmont Road near Piedmont Circle has been vacant for upwards of a year, but will soon become Perla Restaurant. Haykel Arfaoui, current GM at Amuse! on Dutch Valley is partner/investor in the business and said the restaurant will be a taqueria of sorts and offer higher quality offerings than that of nearby Taqueria del Sol. Taqueria has been a favorite amongst intown residents for years, so it's pretty gutsy to make such a bold statement. Interestingly, just up the road, Mounir Barhoumi, previously GM at Amuse!, opened La Fourchette. While may restaurants have failed in the past year or so, there seems to be no shortage of restaurateurs and investors willing to try for the next success. ToNeTo Atlanta

"Tacos gringos" are so profitable and the Buckhead crowd just adores them. I'd open a place too if I could charge 3.00 for a 1.00 taco. This weekend they painted some "southwestern scenes" on the front of the old Mrs. Winner's building and were painting the outside.

It'd be nice if they redesigned the site to make it look more urban. This site looks tacky and suburban as it is right now.

Just drove past there. The murals on the front look horrid.

Keep up the great work! Your competitor's blog is quickly becoming a joke.

So let's see, within a 3 or 4 mile radius we have Taqueria Del Sol (both Howell Mill and Cheshire Bridge - maybe even Decatur), Holy Taco, El Taco, Taco Cabana, Pozole, and Hankook Taqueria. This doesn't count the numerous burrito parlors and old school Mexican Restaurants, all of whom sling tacos as well.

As I always say, if it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing.
