Pinkberry Plans Peachtree Premiere

Los Angeles-based Pinkberry, with franchised locations at Akers Mills near Cumberland Mall and at Merchants Walk in East Cobb, may finally be making its long awaited entry into the Buckhead area. While Buckhead originally was announced as the first location for Pinkberry in Atlanta, they opened the aforementioned stores first. Sources indicate that David Beall, the local franchisee of the Pinkberry brand, hopes to open a new location where Marble Slab Creamery recently closed at the intersection of Wieuca and Peachtree Roads.

The shop is sandwiched between CVS Pharmacy and Borders and closed a few days ago. The space where Marble Slab and CVS are located was once the Buckhead location of Just For Feet and was to become a Dean & Deluca, but those plans fell through. The closure of Marble Slab follows the closure of Cold Stone Creamery in Phipps Plaza, so perhaps the days of Atlantans acceptance of overpriced ice cream are numbered. Interestingly, the Buckhead area has remained largely untouched by local and national Fro-Yo shops thus far. Other than Yogurberry in Terminus, and Three on the Tree near Chastain Park, the Buckhead area is far less saturated than one might expect considering its density, median income and number of families. Everyone from Yogli Mogli to Juicy Green claim they have Buckhead locations coming soon, but it seems Pinkberry will be the first to strike.

In related news, the same franchisee who owned the Marble Slab also owns the location in Midtown on 5th Street near Georgia Tech. As David Beall previously said he plans to open in both Buckhead and Midtown, it's my thinking that he will assume control of the (currently open) Midtown Marble Slab at some point in the future. It's about the same size and would give him great visibility in Midtown and with the many Tech students who frequent the area. Attempts this week and last week to reach Mr. Beall for comment were unsuccessful.

I'd expect Buckhead to be open by mid Janaury and anticipate Midtown could follow in early spring. ToNeTo Atlanta

Hello Sara,

Construction has yet to begin but I'd guess they'd be open by mid-late January.

Thanks for reading the blog!
