Twisted Taco Opening Sixth Location (Again)

Twisted Taco will open its sixth area location when it opens next year in the vacant Garrison's Broiler & Tap in Johns Creek. Garrison's closed earlier this year and the space had been vacant. Part of Metrotainment Cafes, Garrison's was closed so that the ownership group could focus on opening Sugar Shack in Brookhaven and expand their (more) successful Hudson Grille concept.

The restaurant space is located adjacent to Tilted Kilt at the corner of Medlock Bridge and State Bridge Roads within Medlock Crossing shopping center, also home to an 18 screen Regal Cinemas, among other tenants.

Twisted Taco as a chain has had an interesting year. In January they announced they had signed a lease near Emory Village and would be opening by spring. Later in the year, Yogli Mogli opened adjacent to the space Twisted Taco was to open in, and today little work has been done and their opening seems distant. February saw the opening of Twisted Taco Tucker followed soon after by the closure of Twisted Taco Kennesaw. Next week, a new location will open in Smyrna. In between all of this, the original location in midtown was sold and later reopened as the Deadwood Saloon. Though I don't frequent their establishments on a regular basis, I seem to not be the only one, as their Tucker and Buckhead locations often seem pretty empty.

Rick Seaman and Gavin Abadi also own the existing Twisted Taco locations in Roswell on Holcomb Bridge Road and in North Buckhead on Wieuca Road. Seaman and Abadi also have various other interests throughout the city, though not all public. Seaman is partner in VIA restaurant and the Gold Room, both in Buckhead and previously owned Velvet Room in its earlier incarnation on Peachtree in midtown. Abadi has been involved in clubs and restaurants for years but apparently also dabbles in auctions.

While I'm not a big fan of the Twisted Taco concept, these guys seem to have deep pockets and surely can make a go of it at such a busy intersection. At just over 8,000 s/f, the space, (which I scoped out just a few hours ago) would seem to be larger than their typical locations. With renovations yet to begin, but a lease signed, I'd say they could be open as early as late February. ToNeTo Atlanta

ok, I am an idiot apparently, couldnt figure out a way to send you a message other than leaving a comment... do you have any idea what is coming in on the bottom floor of Spire Midtown? I've heard a 5-Guys (meh, who would go there with The Vortex literally a block away) and maybe an Italian joint... any idea?

Hey,

Sorry bout that...you're not an idiot, I took the link away mistakenly and will be replacing it shortly.

As for Spire, yea sadly Five Guys in the old Kuhlman space is the only confirmed opening. Would not be shocked if someone tried opening a Fro-Yo joint in there too. Will update the blog / twitter if and when news develops regarding new tenants.

Thanks for the question!

Five Guys is taking the space at Spire in the former Viewpoint sales center, not in the Kuhlman space. Build out has already begun.

Here's a copy of a recent site plan:

Hey FourthEstate,

Thanks for the update. I had heard both, but Kuhlman most recently. The sales center would seem to be better as it's on Peachtree.

Thanks for reading!
