Stir Crazy Added to the Mix at TOWN Brookhaven

Chicago-based Stir Crazy will open its first Atlanta area location later this year. Scheduled to open later this summer within TOWN Brookhaven, Stir Crazy is presumably the replacement for The Real Chow Baby which was previously announced to have signed for space in the project, but has since pulled out. While not the same concept, Stir Crazy does feature a a circular grill where patrons may view their meals being prepared. Having attended school in Boca Raton for a time, I visited their location at Boca Town Center Mall a few times. The food good, but not amazing, and the quality is somewhere between Doc Chey's and P.F. Chang's.

With Dallas Texas-based Genghis Grill entering the Atlanta market as well, (a location is opening in South Buckhead with three others already open in Alpharetta, Buford and Sandy Springs) and local concepts Chow Baby and Big Chow Grill both talking expansion, it will be interesting to see how everything progresses. Additionally, Chipotle Mexican Grill is developing a fast casual Asian concept said to be on par with Pei Wei Asian Kitchen, the casual concept from P.F. Chang's and Pick up Stix. While no locations have been announced, Atlanta would seem to be an ideal market should the concept prove to be successful. It's likely initial testing will be done in Chipotle's home city of Denver.

Back at TOWN Brookhaven, Stir Crazy's space will supposedly be within the not yet completed structure to the left of the upcoming Marshall's store. Thus far, Moe's Southwest Grill, Slack's Hoagie Shack and Costco are the only tenants that have opened, although there are a number of potential tenants that have been mentioned. The Flying Biscuit is apparently seeking a franchisee to run its would-be location at TOWN Brookhaven, and Gary Birnberg is planning to open what would be his fourth Atlanta area Which Wich.

I'm not convinced this development is going to be the success many hope, but this is definitely a step in the right direction. What do you think? What's missing?

Judging from the rest of your articles, you don't think anything is a success. *rolls eyes*

@Anon,

That seems to be a general statement. While as a whole, I don't particularly like TOWN Brookhaven or Atlantic Station, there are places I do find to be "successful" and do make note of it. Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza come to mind property wise and Farm Burger and Chick-Fil-A restaurant wise.

I'm eagerly awaiting the LA Fitness at Town Brookhaven.

We went by recently to try out Slack's, but the place was packed! We didn't even try to go in.

You consider Phipps to be successful? I don't recall a 34% vacancy rate with major stores such as Barney's Co-op, Versace, Valentino all (from what I've read here) in trouble and smaller boutiques like Blue Couture and Jedal up in the air..

BUT I'd like to see REI relocate from it's current location in Buckhead to Brookhaven :)

Hey Randy,

Yea well, a success to some is less of a success to others. I'd say the assortment of stores at Atlantic Station and sales figures for that matter as well as the minimal occupancy at TOWN thus far are worse than the 34% (?) vacancy at Phipps.

As for REI, what Buckhead location are you referencing? The one on the Access Road?

ATL loves their chains and franchises. TOWN is just Roswellretta in disguise. Brookhaven is pretty much a haven for the $30k millionaires, leased BMWs and Post apts and pretend they are wealthier than they appear. Thank God this stir fry dump is opening there. And gone next year.

I lol'd hard @ Roswellretta and Brookhaven being a haven for $30kmilli's - let's rename it Brokehaven or BrookLeasin' or BrokeLeasin' et cetera.

And what part of town do you live in, Anon?

I'm pretty sure if Brookhaven was THAT wealthy, TOWN would look for a more upscale tenant than Marshalls.
