Sour Business leads to Everbest Market Closure

Everbest Market on Briarcliff Road has closed.

The casual lunch and dinner spot opened in place of Mimi's in a Minute at Briar Clair shopping center last October, and featured a rotating variety of fresh sides and sandwiches.  The restaurant closed last week with an onsite employee stating they closed because they "didn't have enough business."

I made it in a few times and very much enjoyed chef Max Miller's take on the classic grilled cheese made with artisanal cheeses, pesto and tomatoes.  It's sad to see this locally owned joint close, but while its food was good, its service was hit or miss and its location was not ideal for their lunch heavy menu.

Everbest also featured King of Pops and also participated in the controversial Scoutmob dealsite. No word on what may replace the restaurant, but in other neighborhood news, the new QuikTrip at Clairmont & Briarcliff is scheduled to open this Thursday the 13th.  Chevron & Shell... prepare to meet your maker!

What would you like to see open in place of Everbest Market?  Why do you think only ethnic eateries like Desta have found success in the area?  Are you excited about the new QuikTrip?  Please share your thoughts in the comment section below.

What a shame! I really enjoyed Everbest. Their sandwiches were high quality. I went there several times for weekday lunch.

It's strange, I remember the seats being filled when I was there. I had to eat at a bar stool once because all the tables were taken. I wonder if they just didn't allow for enough seating? They seemed to do pretty good business to me. Or maybe their lunch rush was really short and they were slow outside the lunch hour.

Anyway, this will be missed. I hope they can re-open in a different location.

QuikTrip should be an interesting newcomer. They haven't addressed how incredibly hard it is to get in or out of that block. The entire intersection just stinks.

Agree 100% with your analysis. Great food, but service and speed was hit or miss. There were times I thought about going in but didn't because I was in a rush and wasn't sure how long it would take to get a sandwich. That is a tough location with parking too.

While it was crowded at times, it seemed to me to be a very small window and I doubt a restaurant can thrive being busy just during lunch just during the week.

I was just wondering, why is the Scoutmob dealsite controversial?
Sad to see Everbest go, though, they had some really good sandwiches.

I am disappointed to read this. Maybe just like Everbest did, another similar business will takeover in that location. Or maybe they are just doomed as a gourmet eatery. At any rate, there doesn't seem to be anything else that exists in that immediate vicinity and while I'm excited about the QT opening, packaged food or hot dogs is not quite the same as what Everbest had to offer!

It is really sad to see a business establishment closes. But I guess they forgot something about putting up a business- the location. It is really important that you take into consideration where you will be placing your business. It should be appropriate with the needs of the residents.

@Anon,

That makes Scoutmob controversial is that its an expensive marketing tool that in many cases is used by struggling businesses. Over the past year, it ( IMHO ) has hurt plenty of businesses and does not offer the ROI it should, for the cost. Businesses pay per offer redeemed and are giving half off at the same time.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for reading and for the comments.

I have to think that if Everbest was in the Oak Grove/Vista Grove shopping centers, it might have greater success. There'd be a market for reasonably priced & interesting prepared foods. Oak Grove Market is great, love them, but they tend to stick to a "homestyle" menu that's probably great for families, but is frankly a bit too fattening/boring for many of us.

Oh my! It is quite depressing to know that. But if their business is really not doing well, I guess closing it is the best thing to do. But I hope they would bounce back from this downfall and would be wise in selecting their next location (if ever they will reopen it).
