Phipps Plaza : Where a Kid Can Be a Kid

Phipps Plaza is trying to keep pace with its larger counterpart Lenox Square with the addition of new retailers.

While not to the level many have come to expect from the luxury mall, new children's retailers are in line with the changing demographic being attracted to the mall and its popular Legoland Discovery Center.

Scheduled to be joining Justice on the now kid-centric second level are OshKosh B'gosh, Carter's, Stride Rite, Claire's and potentially Koo Koo Bear, an Atlanta-based children's and baby item retailer.  Many of these new stores will occupy the long vacant former Gap stores as well as the relocated Armani Exchange boutique.

Atlanta-based Carter's recently signed a lease for a new store at Mall of Georgia Crossing in Buford with the planned Phipps location being their first ITP store.  Carter's also recently announced they will relocate their headquarters to Phipps Tower, adjacent to Phipps Plaza, early next year.

Shoe retailer Mephisto will also open in the mall, taking the place of The Sharper Image on the second level (or as its seen on the Phipps Plaza website, the Tommy Hilfiger boutique.)

The posh Buckhead mall has seen the addition of Legoland Discovery Center and substantial renovation of its AMC Theaters in recent years, as well as welcomed a number of new retailers.  Hublot and Omega, both luxury watchmakers, opened at the mall, as did Rebecca Taylor.  Tory Burch relocated and expanded her boutique while Cole Haan will soon do the opposite and downsize their store.  The remaining Cole Haan space was divided into two separate new stores, Trina Turk and Jack Rogers, both opening soon.

Agent Provocateur, a sexy lingerie retailer, is also opening at the mall, taking space most recently home to Sunglass Hut, on the main level of the mall near Starbucks.

No word on what will take over the former Carter Barnes salon in the Nordstrom wing, but a source tells me its "very" likely that Michael Stars will relocate to a portion of it temporarily.

What are your thoughts on the changes at Phipps Plaza?  Are you turned off by the new direction the malls seems to be going in?  What would you like to see open in the Carter Barnes space?

Well that would explain why Michael Stars looks temporary as you mentioned in DeathWatch.
