Sprouts Looking to Take Root in Dunwoody

A healthy new grocery store coming to Dunwoody.

Sources say Phoenix, Arizona-based Sprouts Farmers Market is planning yet another metro Atlanta location in a former Harris-Teeter in Dunwoody at Mt. Vernon Shopping Center.  The center is bond by Mount Vernon Road, Jett Ferry Road and Dunwoody Club Drive, three major Dunwoody area roads.

The Harris-Teeter closed in 2001, and for a time was an Ace Hardware.  Kroger, which bought a number of Harris-Teeter locations when the company exited the market, rebranded some as Kroger stores, but in other cases, kept the stores closed while continuing to hold long term leases on the spaces to prevent competition.  This tactic is especially familiar to residents of Brookhaven, where for a time, Kroger operated two stores literally across the street from each other.  The former Harris-Teeter on the southbound side and a converted A&P on the northbound side in Cherokee Plaza.  The former Harris-Teeter turned Kroger was eventually closed in favor of the larger A&P space which is currently being renovated and expanded.

Sprouts, which went public earlier this year, has been doing deals all over Atlanta.  In some cases, Sprouts will be the anchor of new projects, in other cases, like in Dunwoody, they will fill existing, but currently vacant anchor space.

Other Sprouts are planned for Roswell, Snellville, Cumming, north Buckhead, Smyrna, and Norcross.

BTW.... What's happening with the old Brookhaven Harris Teeter location? It's been vacant for awhile now.

As I mentioned in the article, Kroger still holds that lease (as far as I know) and as such, are preventing any similar business from opening.

Thanks for your readership.

Sprouts will also take a 30,355 sq. ft. location at Johns Creek Town Center located at 3630 Peachtree Parkway. The space is currently occupied by a Shoe Gallery.

This is awesome. Finally the crappy Kroger will have some serious competition.
