Bits & Bites

Pure Taqueria is now open in Brookleigh Marketplace on Johnson Ferry Road.  The new eatery features a rooftop patio and a full bar. This new location in Brookhaven marks the chain's sixth overall location.

The former location of The Real Chow Baby at the Mall of Georgia in Buford will soon reopen as a new Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant.  The stir fly eatery closed earlier this year, as did its original west midtown location last year.

A new location of Newk's Eatery is coming to The Forum in Norcross.  The new fast casual eatery will open in suite 105, formerly home to The Children's Place.  The space is next to Hallmark and a few doors down from Trader Joe's.  The restaurant will be about 4,000 square feet inside and feature an approximately 430 square foot outdoor patio.  Newk's has five locations in Georgia with a handful more in the works for the metro area.

California Pizza Kitchen will spend $500,000 to renovate their restaurant at Lenox Square according to a permit with the City of Atlanta.  All I can say is, it's about time!

New locations of Jimmy John's are coming soon to The Publix-anchored The Peach shopping center on Peachtree Road as well as Lindbergh City Center on Piedmont Road.

The owners of Colossus Pizza on Five Forks Trickum Road in Stone Mountain have opened a second restaurant.  Colossus Restaurant opened recently in the former Sangria's Mexican Cafe in the Staples-anchored Tucker Plaza shopping center on Hugh Howell Road in Tucker.

A new Vietnamese restaurant called Pho King is opening soon at The Shops of Buckhead (2221 Peachtree Road) in south Buckhead.  The new restaurant replaces Sakana Sushi & Grill Japanese Restaurant in the roughly 1,800 square foot space.  The center is also home to CamiCakes, Alexis Suitcase and the recently opened Big Al's Gourmet Butter Burgers.

CamiCakes has opened a new location in Mansell Crossing on North Point Parkway near North Point Mall. Additionally, another location that will offer both ice cream and cupcakes via "CamiCakes Creamery"  is slated to open "no later than July 1st" on Camp Creek Parkway in East Point.  There are currently two CamiCakes in Florida and four in Georgia.

Although it lasted far longer than I'd expected, Pita's Republic has closed its sole Atlanta location on Peachtree Street in midtown.  In its place, Subway will open a new location in the 1,400 square foot space in the street level of "The Windsor Over Peachtree" condo building.  Gorin's Homemade Ice Cream & Sandwiches occupied the space for many years before being reconcepted into "TJ's Subs."   Later, the short-lived  "David's Gourmet" occupied the space before Pita's Republic opened in 2010

A new four-story, sixty-seven guest room La Quinta Inn & Suites is planned off N. Lee Street in Forsyth.  The new hotel was recently approved for a three year tax freeze by Monroe county commissioners. The hotel will likely open sometime in the first half of next year.

The Forum now has a Jasons Deli, Atlanta Bread Company, Which Wich? and Newks - real imagination on the leasing strategy. Almost becoming the next food court likeTown Brookhaven with over 16 places to eat?

I believe the old Sangrias location in Tucker was actually in the Staples anchored center across the street from Publix. The restaurant is actually around the corner from Staples on the Cowan Road side of the center.

I really enjoyed eating at Sangrias several years ago, but the food and service really seemed to slip. However, I believe there were some other issues related to a law suit that resulted in the closing. Anyway, I hope the new restaurant does well…

Any word yet on if the Powers Ferry Frontera will re-open?

Is Pho King next to Sofa King?

Yeah, the Forum is not what it used to be! National retail-stores have been shutting down there right and left. I really miss the convenience of having an Express and The Children's Place there.

It's becoming more and more of a food court. Too much competition with Avalon and other new developments. Plus, they're still surrounded by a lot of run-down neighborhoods to the south.

I still think The Forum is a nice change of pace especially in the cooler months when walking store to store is more enjoyable. However, I am still upset that the Orvis store closed a few years back and will admit that has reduced my visits to the center.
