Dollar store to close.
Goodlettsville, Tennessee-based Dollar General plans to close its location on LaVista Road in Vista Grove shopping center. The store opened in late 2010 in the former Eckerd space within the center.
The store is currently offering 10-25% select products. I say select products, as food, drink, paper goods, personal care items and seemingly anything a person would want, are all excluded from the "closing sale." Plans call for the store to close October 31st.
Last summer, Dollar General lodged a competing bid of $9.7 billion against Dollar Tree for Family Dollar. The bid was subsequently rejected by the Family Dollar board, which said it would proceed with the deal with Dollar Tree. The $9.2 billion Tree / Family merger inched closer to completion recently with news that the company has agreed to sell 330 Family Dollar stores to private equity firm Sycamore Partners. The stores involved, spread throughout 35 states, are meant to settle an FTC complaint that the proposed merger would be anticompetitive.
Dollar General and Family Dollar, unlike Dollar Tree, offer products for multiple dollars, as opposed to a dollar.
There is reportedly no immediate replacement in Vista Grove for the Dollar General space. It would be interesting to see a convenience store like RaceTrac or QuikTrip occupy the space and make use of the abandoned gas station in the parking lot left idle from the Village Market closure nearly ten years ago.
What would you like to see open in place of Dollar General? Did you ever patronize the store? Would you like see the gas station reopened or cleared and returned as parking?

I shop at that Dollar General all the time. It is a very nice store. Sad to see it close. I think Dollar General is a much better store than Family Dollar as far as selection and price.
Depending on what replaces it they may need to demolish the gas station for parking.
Demolish one auto-centric business to create more auto-centric space. Yayyyy! Exciting!!!
@Anonymous #2 - The gas station in the middle of the parking lot is not an auto-centric space - it has been unused for years, since the grocery store that was the anchor for the center went out of business. It simply takes up space that could be put to better use. The left side of the parking lot is already congested during peak times for Napoleon's, the gym, and the other businesses on that end of the shopping center.
Sorry to see Dollar General close. It was a good place to grab the occasional random item, but I rarely saw more than 3 or 4 customers in the store at any given time.
When have you ever seen a Race Trac or a Quik Trip in a strip mall? They are always stand-alone buildings.
Hope they get rid of the gas pumps (not appropriate for that location). Would love to see a fresh food market in that space. The Oak Grove neighborhood can support something nicer there.
Trader joe's or another restaurant would be a nice addition.

Hmm.. LaVista Hills Town Center? Or maybe a strip club would be less controversial.
Sorry, no strip clubs. You can't open any new ones in unincorporated DeKalb.
A nice restaurant with consistent food and service would be quite welcome. I'm tired of having to drive out of the area for a nice meal.
QT or RaceTrac? God, no! For one thing, that space is way too small for QT or RaceTrac to even consider. One of their stores would take up most of the shopping center. And who wants that kind of traffic? The Oak Grove area is much more pedestrian-friendly since the intersection was redesigned. We don't need hundreds of additional cars per day pulling in and out of that shopping center, not to mention all the landscaping trucks.
Any updates on what will be replacing Dollar General?
